On November 10th, it was announced that the aquarium opened a new gallery called "Dive Deep into the Gulf" to the public, which shows off the marine life and coral systems in the twilight and midnight zones of the Gulf of Mexico. It is the first such public display highlighting coral restoration work in the region.

Audubon Aquarium has just rescued 16 Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtles.
Audubon Nature Institute on Instagram: "Audubon Aquarium Rescue (AAR) recently welcomed 16 critically endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles to care for after the turtles were found struggling with cold weather on the East Coast. When turtles are cold-stunned, their heart and breathing rates slow and they become lethargic, unable to find food, and are at risk of being hit by boats as they float along the ocean surface. Fortunately, these turtles were rescued and received initial treatment at the @NationalMarineLifeCenter and @NewEnglandAquarium before being flown to rehabilitation facilities by @turtlesfly2. Once with AAR, each turtle was given a physical examination, diagnostic imaging, blood work, and a swim test to determine their overall health and condition. Fourteen of the new arrivals were healthy enough to go into a large recovery pool, two others will get additional treatment for eye issues before they can join the rest of the turtles. Each turtle will be given a constellation name in order to tell them apart. The turtles will be monitored intensively during their recovery. Each will have its own specific treatment plan for any remaining health concerns. While the ultimate goal is to release the turtles back into the Gulf of Mexico, there is currently no estimated timeframe for that to happen. Coordinated by Audubon Nature Institute, Audubon Aquarium Rescue serves as @NOAAFisheries' primary marine mammal and sea turtle stranding network partner in Louisiana. AAR is committed to the humane care and treatment of injured, ill, or displaced marine animals in Louisiana and is the only entity in the state responsible for the rehabilitation of live marine mammals and sea turtles. If you see a stranded marine mammal or sea turtle (live or dead), report it to Audubon Aquarium Rescue at 877-942-5343."
