Zootierliste shows that they have hoatzin! There is no source listed. Could it be real??!?!?
Edit- most likely fake, no socials post and no source.

If it's true it would be the most amazing news I've heard all year! Though I feel that if DWA managed to get Hoatzins they would keep them at their offsite breeding facility for propagation where they keep their equally rare Resplendent Quetzals.

According to zootierliste, there are now hoatzins at the Dallas world aquarium. I know this could be fake but can anyone confirm if it’s real? I really hope it is. There’s no source for zootierliste so I am heavily doubtful about this.

To save everyone the hassle, here’s a picture of the listing:IMG_7310.png

This is not correct. It's unsourced on ZTL and there's no info online, at least none I can find. The ZTL listing should be deleted. I would love to hear otherwise but I would bet quite a lot of money to say someone added this in error, or perhaps as intentional trolling.

Agreed on that, however, this is a troller for sure. I am almost certainly sure that DWA has never had them. Little odd that DWA was the choice though considering the facility, must of been well educated troller…. or I am overlooking this ;)

While DWA doesn't usually post about new additions on social media, I feel a Hoatzin would warrant it. I'm gonna bank on a mistaken ID, maybe before the end of the year I'll head over to DWA to see if there's a Hoatzin or not, but I would say it's a 99% chance that it's a troll or mistaken id. (Though if they did have a Hoatzins I'd expect them to not be on display but at the offsite breeding facility same as the Resplendent Quetzals and Horned Guans due to their rarity)

I've seen stuff added to ZTL for DWA that's been gone for years. I once saw a "current" holding at a zoo where the animal has been gone for 30 years. Don't trust anything rare on there without some sort of evidence. It's possible they do, but people are still adding very inaccurate information to the site unfortunately.

I will say, I saw hoatzin in the wild earlier this year, and the one thing I kept thinking was that it was such a pity that they never really became established in zoos. Even in the wild, they were so approachable, so curious, and so appealing, I could easily imagine them being the perfect addition to a walkthrough aviary. If their diet wasn’t such a challenge, they’d probably be one of the most popular aviary birds
