Speculative Zoo Species List Help

To add on to the various spec zoo design help threads, this one should be used to help others come up with species lists. All you need to do is say what your exhibit is and some other useful details (intentions, location, budget, etc.) which will hopefully lead to other zoochatters helping you. All you have to do is list specific species that are plausible.I’ll start. Here are my exhibits that I need help on. This is for my Las Vegas spec zoo thread.
  1. Bioluminescence -Stars jellyfish and other animals
  2. It’s Electric - Has electric eel
  3. Umbrawarra Gorge - It’s an aquarium exhibit, only species so far is a Mertens water monitor
  4. Caesar’s menagerie indoor building - Animals found in Italy, Roman menageries, etc.
  5. Discovery garden - an indoor garden with various species Darwin interacted with.

I feel like you could highlight an under-appreciated bioregion in the “discovery garden”- the Atlantic forest of Brazil. A cool idea would be for you to have red-footed tortoises in this area, and contrast them with Galapagos tortoises in a neighboring exhibit with outdoor access. There could also be free-flying birds in this indoor garden, with an exhibit for endangered golden lion tamarins and the more common common marmosets within the indoor tropical hall. It might also be cool to show several different species of tetras and characins in a series of aquariums, as they show examples of convergent evolution and specialization, which Darwin studied. For example, Penguin tetras vs. Blackskirt tetras and the like.

Thanks. I was thinking of also having some type of iguana as a placeholder for the Galapagos version and maybe even having some macaws (endangered so blue-throated and red-fronted) that are free-roaming. Do you have any ideas for the other parts?

The Albemarle or Isabela Lava-lizard (Microlophus albemarlensis) lives on the Galapagos Islands. It is listed for 2 Zootierliste collections.

Possibly Jamaican or Rhinoceros Iguanas could be stand-ins, as they are both examples of island diversity, with the conservation benefit of both of them being endangered in the wild, so breeding could be an advent as well. With the macaws, I feel as if an exhibit contrasting more common species that are now extirpated in the Mata Atlantica (green-winged and blue-and-yellow macaws) with a pair of highly endangered Red-fronted macaws (from the Bolivian caatinga) would work well.

I no longer need help with the bioluminescence exhibit. Here's what I got for the other exhibits (other than Discovery Garden) so far.
It's Electric: Electric Catfish, Electric Eel, Peter's Elephantnose Fish, Tokay Gecko, Western Honeybee

Umbrawarra Gorge: Merten's Water Monitor

Caesar's Menagerie (indoor section): Asp, European Pond Turtle, European Praying Mantis, Fire Salamander, Italian Wall Lizard, Mediterranean House Gecko, Roman Snail, Sheltopusik, various Mediterranean Sea enclosures

Some possible spider species found in captivity could be Goliath Birdeater Theraphosa blondi, and Golden Silk Orb-Weaver Nephila clavipes. For invertebrates in general, you can have Amazonian Giant Centipede, butterflies and Leafcutter Ants

I'm currently designing the species at my spec zoo, and I have a couple exhibits that I need help with but I also still need help with the other exhibits (other than Discovery Garden)
  1. Endangered Nevada Exhibit - It will be a gallery in the Conservation Centre. I only have Amargosa Toad, Devils Hole Pupfish, Relict Leopard Frog, Spring Mountain Springsnail right now
  2. Nocturnal Conservation Centre - It will be a trail in the Conservation Centre. I only have Mongoose Lemur and Western Woylie so far but I don't want species that would apply for my other exhibits
  3. Gran Chaco Vivarium - It focuses on the arid portion with tegu, boas, armadillos, howler, horned frogs, tarantulas, and a tarantula with hopefully more species
  4. Australian Dome - Nocturnal animals from the Central Outback (other than short-beaked echidna, and tawny frogmouth)
  5. Land of the Pharaohs - Nile river Pyramid other softshell turtle, monitor, crocodile, birds, etc. with both diurnal and nocturnal species (also desert species too)
  6. Area 51 - Weird looking species from Southeast Asian mangroves that are diurnal or nocturnal
If possible, I need possible mixed enclosures for these aquarium exhibits; Umbrawarra Gorge, Colorado River, Gulf of Mexico (coral reef enclosure), Las Vegas Wash (beaver aviary), Great Rift Valley, Nocturnal Indian Ocean, Lake Chad, and Red Sea (Large communal tank)

I have some ideas for animals for your Area 51 section and the ideas are Tarsier and Binturong.
