Andean Bear Suyana, the female from Alba and Turbo’s most recent litter, has been transferred to Smithsonian National Zoo and has been seen out on habitat. Her brother Ransisku is still in San Diego and on habitat at the top of Bear Canyon, while their dad Turbo is on habitat at the bottom of the hill. Mom Alba is enjoying some time out of the spotlight in a habitat not accessible to the public.

Red Panda Lucas has been moved to Wildlife Explorers’ Basecamp and is sharing space with female Adira. He has been off habitat for awhile so it was great to see him looking well! The two of them seemed to be getting along well from what I observed. 1A0A3025.jpeg

There is also a new ambassador animal raccoon named Skipper in the habitat next to them. He was discovered on a boat as a baby and kept as a pet for awhile so ineligible for release. He seems to be quite a character!

Although there is now signage for an Aye-Aye in the habitat where the lemurs were housed recently, I was told by a primate keeper that both of the Aye-Ayes have been moved up the hill to an area not accessible to the public. I’m not sure why they put the sign there, but I believe all of those habitats have been vacated in anticipation of construction. The two Francois Langur males who were in the adjacent habitat have been moved to the old Lion Tailed Macaque habitat near Scripps Aviary.
Are they starting their Asian Passage project soon? Curious what the timetable for that'll be and what it would entail, hopefully they keep Sun Bear Forest and just build around it!

I visited yesterday and definitely will miss the Caracal, hopes to see this guy sometime in the future.

Still waiting for the leggy dogs

There's been rumblings of construction for the center street area for some time now to my understanding, but I haven't seen much on what precisely will replace it. However, a good upgrade to that area and the removal of those old primate cages would lift one of the zoo's last major flaws. I'm not sure they plan to keep Aye-aye in the collection, but we'll see I guess.
Sun Bear Forest will likely turn into Sloth Bear Forest, but agreed, hopefully it stays.

I thought that the zoo had 3 Komodo's a female and two males? I vaguely remember that Satu a male from Palm Beach Zoo was transferred to San Diego to breed with a female there named Ratu. did she pass away?
Sadly both Satu and Ratu passed away. Satu last year and Ratu in September of this year. Now just have one 7yr old male arrived last year from Zoo Miami.

Sad to hear :(, I got to see Satu many times when he was at Palm Beach Zoo, that explains why I didn't see him when I was at San Diego back in September.
