Bali Safari and Marine Park Bali Safari and Marine Park

Hold on, today is December 27!
Also, that bull shark looks cool! Glad to see it making a return in Indonesian aquaria! Hopefully BXSea acquires it at one point.

Confirmed inhabitants via social media include:
- Humboldt Penguins
- Binturong
- Jaguar
- Babirusa
- Zebra Shark
I'm pretty sure those three between the penguin and the zebra shark are mentioned simply as a editing choice to show a "connection" between the land and the sea (Marine Safari theme), nothing more.

After further inspection, those three are mentioned in their "fun fact" post, which I have to admit I don't think it mean they will house them as well. Like, they currently only have a pair of jaguar, I don't think Cisarua would sent another for a marine park (Plus, Marine Park is technically still a part of Bali Safari).

Now the Marine Safari area is really almost finished. And for the reptile house, it is indeed in this area. What's unique here is not only reptiles but also amphibians such as green tree frogs and invertebrates such as African giant snails. So it can be said that Bali Safari & Marine Park is now richer in the diversity of animal collections than in other Taman Safari parks.

I noticed that they don't have the bull shark anymore :(

Funny because SeaWorld Ancol once kept a bull shark that was mistaken as a grey reef shark
Until anyone can prove it otherwise or we can see it clearly to be able to physically ID, we can't really tell clearly. While those two species are almost physically identical, talking about management & curating, they should've be much more aware about the identity of the individual (Considering that they put in a tank with other fishes and potentially divers, which might pose a massive risk).

I suppose just some reassurance that the animals are well looked after and I won't be contributing to anything that won't sit right with me
Ok, I get it. I suggest try to watch videos or any contents on the park, a lot of shady practises aren't always hidden since these are very popular attractions in Indonesia (I.e. elephant ride and interactions, orangutan photo opportunities, tiger show, etc.). @snowleopard has posted a lot of photos to the Bali Safari gallery that it might visualized the situation there.

From what I'm aware here are issues with the park from my personal standpoint:
  • Since the opening of Marine Safari earlier this year, the park has brought in some bottlenose dolphins, which for a long time are planned to be one of their main attraction and show. Dolphin and whale keeping in captivity is a very controversial practises and is often debated here in ZooChat. From personal stance, I prefer to minimize their profit (Not going to see their circuses, often branded as "educational presentation") or completely stay out of it.
  • Bali Safari & Marine Safari is part of the Taman Safari Indonesia group, a Indonesian zoo franchise with two other safari parks in Java, one small zoo in Surakarta (Solo), one aquarium in Jakarta, and multiple hotels/resorts. Though they do have interesting species and very well regarded as being active in conservation of both local and foreign species, as a massive company, they have history of bad animal welfare practises, notably elephant shows and photos with baby animals, which has brought in tons of money for them.
  • With Bali Safari, elephant interactions and rides are still practised. Elephant rides and "bath with elephant" experiences are promoted by the zoo with high prices, while elephants used for it are held in a very small exhibit for most of the day.

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone can help me with names/info for some of the cats at Bali Safari and Marine Park. I can see the Jaguars names are Oscar (M) and Bolivina (F), does anyone know when they were born, or which is the melanistic Jaguar? Would also appreciate the same about the Javan Leopard, White Tiger and Bengal Tiger

Thanks :)

if I recall correctly Oscar is the male melanistic jaguar. One of their Javan leopard, Jason, is 13yo. No idea about the rest sadly.

The 'Bengal' tiger at Bali are most likely generic/hybrid tigers, not the actual subpopulation.
