Caldwell Zoo Caldwell Zoo

Does the Caldwell Zoo have the capacity to house and fences strong enough to withstand a mature bull? I know they already have a couple young bulls with a geriatric cow, and it is a relatively state of the art facility for bachelors since they overhauled it over some years ago.
Occam's Razor's your best bet when it comes to the decisions zoos make - the simplest solution or outcome is the most probable one.

I'm so excited for the new amazon area to finally become unveiled. They have been constructing it for over 2 years now, and I saw it on my last 3 visits since then.

And yes I honestly have sensed the thick steel poles at the elephant facility are able to withstand bulls if there mad or in musth. You can often sense it when you see it. I have seen in pics and vids on social media that their big black barn out back does not use the typical grey vertical bollards, but more reddish brown horizontal bars with vertical posts. I still love that it has sand floors for them.

Caldwell Zoo recently came out with a new map, and... there's reason to believe they used AI for the animal icons. That colobus looks more like a gibbon, and the wildebeest icon looks less like a wildebeest and more like *the Beast*; it just looks unprofessional for a professional institution to use AI.

I went just last month, and saw they significantly updated the map and entrance and guidance signs, and they also renamed the african and north american areas. What I find crazy is that they put what appears to be either a jackal or bat eared fox on the area where the meerkat and porcupines are on the new map. I'm not sure what to say about that

Here is a comparison to their previous map, which I'd unfortunately say looks better even without the used of AI-generated icons:

Also, look at the Golden Lion Tamarin graphic at the bottom, which looks very out of place even compared to the other icons.

But what's extra insulting is the absolutely horrible photoshop on display. It looks like they used an eraser or fuzzy select tool to cut the animals out of the original art piece and then just crudely pasted them onto their map. But in the process, they either accidentally erased parts of the animal (look at the Giraffe's legs) or left in parts of the original background (look at the Elephant's feet or the Bison). And they just didn't care.

This absolutely smacks of laziness. Like, I'm actually in awe on how bad it looks.

I saw that the giraffes are now living in one of the two outdoor spaces for the rhinos. I wonder why that is and if it will means keeping rhinos long term.
