Hello everyone I wasn't sure where the appropriate place was to post this, so hopefully it's ok
I have a friend who talks about his days working in zoos in the UK and South Africa and is now sadly succumbing to dementia and we are working on a memory book. So I just have a few questions about the things he talks about before we decide to write it all down. It can be quite difficult to understand all of the information so we are coming here for assistance. TIA

Welcome, and there's quite a few knowledgeable members on here who might be able to help you, so you can ask away:).

Perfect, thank you! I'd like to start with asking about a place called Colwyn Bay and the elephant keepers there. also would it be usual for a gamekeeper in Zimbabwe to eat elephant meat, although my friend was a ranger there.

There is a book, by Noel Virtue, about his life working with animals, it is called, Among the Animals. Part of the book is about his time working at the Welsh Mountain Zoo (Colwyn Bay) where he worked with Elephants and other animals. He was at the zoo during late 1970s to I think 1987. I really hope that this is helpful.

Thanks, everyone, Trying to piece together the timeline is a bit tricky so here is some more information.
My friend talks about working at Colwyn Bay in the last maybe 6 years as an elephant keeper and a place in London, not sure which. The latter may have been a long time ago. He talks a lot about his time in South Africa working in zoos and game parks, and in Zimbabwe. Also in Spain. I believe it was one of the places in Africa where he described dispatching cats in a very gruesome way to stop them from spreading diseases to the tigers they kept.
He also talks about performing tricks such as feeding an orange to an elephant, and then eating it. And also putting his head in a Hippos mouth; the former sounds rather gross :D
