Not completely North American, but I am currently working on a global Giant Panda population thread.
If the original person agrees that I can do his work. I would be interested in creating a snow leopard list. I am not sure who wanted to work on the snow leopard. Either @IndianRhino or @Valentinoamor . I am not sure but I think it was Indian rhino.Still don’t have a snow leopard list
I am planning to make the jaguar population. I do not mind if you want you and me to work together to make a jaguar population list. I am almost finished with the Snow leopard population list, my next one is Asian Wild Horse then it will be the jaguar population in the end. While I have no interest in creating any additional threads at the moment, I would be interested in a population list that covers every individual Jaguar in the AZA (including Canada).
As for preexisting lists, I have provided a public database for the following species and subspecies; with the respective threads being linked at the bottom of this post:
- Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens styani / A. f. fulgens)
- Black-and-Rufous Sengi (Rhynchocyon petersi)
- North Sulawesi Babirusa (Babyrousa celebensis)

2. Black-and-Rufous Sengis in NA Zoos

3. Babirusas of the United States

*this population list was made in collaboration between myself, @Zoo adventures, and @USZOOfan42; with “Zoo adventures” being the thread’s creator.
I unfortunately have canceled my project of the global Giant Panda thread so if anyone else wants to create it I am totally fine with it. Aside from that, I personally think it would be great to see a Galapagos Tortoise population thread.Does anyone have a request for making a population list? I might not work on the project immediately, but I am open to any suggestions.
Here is the population list that I have made.

Giant Panda's seem like an easy list until you get to China haha, I have run into that before.I unfortunately have canceled my project of the global Giant Panda thread so if anyone else wants to create it I am totally fine with it. I wanted to say the same thing as you. The Chinese giant panda population is difficult to do since there are not much information, but maybe with the help of Chinese Zoochatters, it might be possible.Giant Panda's seem like an easy list until you get to China haha, I have run into that before.
I think @Kifaru Bwana might be able to make a population thread on the Galapagos Tortoise since he has great knowledge about the subspecies of tortoise, which I know nothing about. I do not think I will be making a Galapagos tortoise population thread. Good luck to anybody trying to make it. I am also interested to see it.I unfortunately have canceled my project of the global Giant Panda thread so if anyone else wants to create it I am totally fine with it. I might try to make a Worldwide population of the giant panda.

But that's also exactly why it'd be so nice to have. Especially if you consider them separate species for all the species hunters out there.Putting this out there, anyone attempting Galapagos Giants needs to really know their stuff and/or be working off the AZA docs. The population is complex with many subspecies still present and a lot of hybrids, as well as the current population is sizable.
As mentioned @Kifaru Bwana is extremely knowledgeable on this subject!Putting this out there, anyone attempting Galapagos Giants needs to really know their stuff and/or be working off the AZA docs. @Zoofan15 thank you, I'll definitely reconsider doing this population thread then minus China.A Giant panda population list would be fascinating - but definitely just stick to holders outside of China if you create one. It would be impossible to gather data on all the pandas held within Chinese facilities and the data on those held outside of China would be far more meaningful to ZooChatters (most of which are familiar with a number of these pandas as individuals).
Zootierliste says there’s 20 holders of Giant panda outside of China.
My knowledge about giant tortoises goes far beyond AZA, it includes private breeders in the US (that I will not care to name here ... for private courtesy/confidentiality privilege. Further in the case of both Aldabran/Indian Ocean island giant tortoises and I would say pretty much all Galapagos tortoises in captivity in US, Europe, Australasia as well as South America and further afield (where some facilities and/or collections have acquired the species by "other" means, some legal ... and some illegal. Amen!Putting this out there, anyone attempting Galapagos Giants needs to really know their stuff and/or be working off the AZA docs.
