It's a real same that Adelaide zoo never kept going with the rare Golden headed and Black Tamarins, a small zoo that does ultra well breeding small species like these!

Cotton Top Tamarin
Melbourne zoo currently has 3.1 Cotton Top Tamarin

Guapo - Male - Born in 2020

The Mother and father of Guapo are
Alaida ( female ) and Gomez ( male )

I am awaiting confirmation about this, I am not sure whether they are all still at the zoo
I was told the former breeding pair had passed by a volunteer when their enclosure had initially been boarded up a few years ago. Obviously further confirmation would be welcomed though!

It would also be important to mention this information is from June of last year so could be slightly inaccurate.

Adelaide zoo would be a great place for a variety of rare tamarins, seeing as they have had lots of success with other species of them
Thanks again @Zoofan15

I was really impressed by Adelaide’s Tamarin House when I visited last year. They had four day rooms and multiple outdoor cages with overhead runs.

Adelaide Zoo were formerly a breeding hub for GLT in the region and enjoyed huge success. I would partly attribute it to them holding multiple pairs. Many New Zealand zoos held a single pair and breeding ground to a halt when the pair proved incompatible or one half of the pair died.

Wellington Zoo - Cotton-top tamarin:

In 2016, Wellington Zoo imported 1.1 Cotton-top tamarin:

Esteban, a 4 year old male Cotton Top Tamarin came from Blackpool Zoo in the UK, while Celeste, a 5 year old female, arrived from Bratislava Zoo in Slovakia.

They produced twins in May 2017.

Celeste was paired with a new mate called Soto and they welcomed their first offspring in 2020, a female who was named Cilia. Their second offspring was born January 2021 and was a male named German. They produced their third litter (a single infant again) in June 2022 - no further details known.

Celeste died 2022/2023.

Population on 28/12/2011:

Auckland Zoo had 6.1 Cotton-top tamarins on 28/12/2011. Since Matai was noted to be neutered sometime prior to this date (after siring three litters to Kowhai), it’s my assumption they remained together a non-breeding pair; with Matai’s brothers living together in a bachelor troop:

1.0 Matai (19/11/1997) Tokiro x Miyanta
0.1 Kowhai (20/11/1998) Lukaru x Koha

1.0 Manuka (11/07/1999) Tokiro x Miyanta
1.0 Matagouri (25/01/2000) Tokiro x Miyanta
1.0 Manu (13/08/2000) Tokiro x Miyanta
1.0 Mahaka (22/02/2001) Unknown x Miyanta
1.0 Matewa (22/02/2001) Unknown x Miyanta
