Zoological Park Organization of Thailand

At present, the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand (zpot) is planning to prepare an MOU with Malaysian Association of Zoological Parks and Aquaria (mazpa)Including research and breeding centers in Malaysia for the future conservation of wildlife.
@Flat headed cat, looking forward to this. Every so slowly, but confident changes are happening in the SEAZA framework and at the level between to friendly South East Asian nations! A good development all around!

Thailand and Malaysia can continue to develop conservation efforts together now zpot Participated greatly in the conservation of Malayan tigers in Malaysia, both in terms of reproductive science and husbandry management, even though we have not had Malayan tigers for a long time.

Moo Deng doesn't just help zoos in the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand. Recently, Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Waza Animal Conservation Research Institute of the Zoological Park Organization have contacted and will provide support to the IBREAM In the first phase, there will be fundraising to purchase GPS collars to track pygmy hippos in the wild.
Has the Moo Deng craze helped wild pygmy hippos at all? (analysis)

That is really a good example of ex situ support for in situ conservation.

We are allowed to dream bc dreams are at the root of inspiration and ambitions...! My dream that one time not too distant in the future some pygmy hippos born and raised in captivity globally may be used for restoring pygmy hippo populations in West Africa and apart from the current concentration / focal countries (Cote d'Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone ... and possibly Guinea). The species is extinct in Nigeria, while records for Ghana remain in doubt.

IBREAM works in Cote d'Ivoire and the focus is on its stronghold in Tai National Park.

(Just type WWW.IUCNREDLIST.ORG and type Pygmy Hippo or Choeropsis / Hexaprotodon).

In my perception a review seems long overdue ..., just the work is mostly to review and evaluate done by the specialist group scientists volkunteering their spare time and has 2 stages before an evaluation is fully accepted (A. Reporting/Updating and then B. Review by the Review Board) by both desk, field scientists or other staff ex situ. Further there is also the issue of unpublished data and/or data lying low in research facilities or field stations waiting to be published and/or published....! In other words it remains a gargantuan task that can only be achieved with more staff and outside support and assistance!

How true and it is commendable a neighbouring country works with Malaysian conservation authorities as well as the ex situ conservation breeding community for the critically endangered Malayan tiger Panthera tigris jacksoni where Thailand has become the mainstay for its close conspecific Indochinese tiger Panthera Tigris corbetti.

Truthfully, ZPOT's main focus will remain on its own native tiger subspecies P.t. corbetti and that the Thai population ex situ requires a good deal of focus as well as genetic research to establish which individuals are pure-bred Indochinese and to control the numbers of hybrid/unknown origin tigers in the country in favour of pure-bred either Indochinese or Malayan.

I wonder if ZPOT maintains studbooks for its native Indochinese tigers?

We have already discussed future plans with waza regarding pygmy hippos EEP of aza eaza is very useful and Khao Kheow Open Zoo could be the center for this.

We have been studbooks and seriously selecting the Indochinese tigers, selecting the parents, checking whether they are purebred, checking the quality of semen, and checking the completeness of the breed regularly We give the highest priority to the Indochinese tiger even though We have few varieties, both zpot and vza. In Thailand, there are also Malayan tigers in the southern part of Thailand and we used to have them at Songkhla Zoo. The conservation of Malayan tigers is also considered important and relevant to Thailand.

The successor to Dusit Zoo and new National Zoo will be an entirely new ball game. Even though I have fond memories of the charm and athmosphere at the old Dusit Zoo near the Palaces and Museums .., I am really looking forward to the new zoo. They have some big plans and ambitious projects going plus also the species list and animal collection are going to be mouth watering and absolutely amazing!!!
