That's a Lesser Antillean Iguana, admittedly just as rare as a Tuatara (in the UK, at least).View attachment 763947
Found this old photo from I think 2006, Tuatara from when they used to be on display
Thought people would like to see it
But they currently are on display in TRfrom when they used to be on display

Lovely photograph though!

And yeah as cerperal said that's indeed not a tuatara
It is probably worth posting these in the Chester Zoo gallery rather than in the 2025 news thread.View attachment 763975
Another one from a while ago, I think 2015 , a Serval unfortunately Chester dont keep these anymore, I have always wished they kept small cats as well as the ‘normal’ large species
That’s a very nice shot! I’d agree it’s a shame they no longer keep serval, I’m not totally sure why they were phased out (probably individuals dying off and general lack of space). As for small cats in general, Chester tried to keep Pallas’s cats (Otocolobus manul) a few years back but they all tragically died due to illness shortly after arrival.View attachment 763975

Can anyone tell me where I can find the heart of Africa plans? When the zoo changed their logo and branding, and hence revamped their website, a few months ago they took all the animal inventories down at the same timeincluding the 2023 inventory.
Even if this were not the case, the 2024 inventory wouldn't have been uploaded yet anyhow.
If you're interested in small cats, previously held at Chester, it's worth noting Chester had a specimen of the rarely-seen pampas cat in the late 1970s/early 1980s....As for small cats in general, Chester tried to keep Pallas’s cats (Otocolobus manul) a few years back but they all tragically died due to illness shortly after arrival.
In Dragons in DangerWhere in the zoo are the Philippine mousse deer kept?
Zootierliste lists Chester as only holding 0,1 - this was as of 2022 and unfortunately the inventories are no longer online. Is this a true reflection of current numbers at Chester?Where in the zoo are the Philippine mousse deer kept?
I spoke to a keeper a few months ago and he confirmed they just had the one female. He also stated that it was going to be transferred to a zoo in Europe but of course the paperwork was holding it up. Heard nothing since.Zootierliste lists Chester as only holding 0,1 - this was as of 2022 and unfortunately the inventories are no longer online. A shame if Chester are indeed going out of the species, but with one female remaining, a move to another collection for a further chance of increasing the current captive population makes sense.I spoke to a keeper a few months ago and he confirmed they just had the one female.
