Yorkshire Wildlife Park Yorkshire Wildlife Park News 2025

I visited the park today, i can post an in-depth summary later if people are interested in all developments.

On a sad note, sea lion ranger did confirm that even though it hasn’t been announced publicly, dominic the male sea lion died yesterday under anesthetic. The ranger also said 2 of the sea lions are pregnant and due in june but there will be no more babies after those as dominic was the breeding male. They won’t be getting a new breeding male.

Very sad, I remember seeing him when he was very young at Whipsnade and saw him take part in one of his first shows there. He must have been around 20?

Keeper said he was 18! Will definitely be missed by all the keepers. He also said in the sea lions talk how the park are really against doing any form of sea lion show which i found nice to hear as i prefer it when they can do as they choose instead of the shows and tricks.

18 sounds about right. I wouldn't disagree with you there but a lot of the Whipsnade show involved demonstrations on vet training and in there old home training for the shows was probably a form of enrichment, they didn't balance balls on their noses or anything like that.

Yeah, it’s the show at knowsley which is one of the ones with lots of tricks, i visited knowsley yesterday but didn’t watch the show.

Oh dear that is sad news. Used to enjoy him very much at Whipsnade and I visited YWP for the first time to see him and the others when they moved there, making it a regular haunt since. I'll miss seeing him. Great memories though and he leaves a lovely legacy with all the pups he's fathered. Sad times for his Keepers at YWP and his old Whipsnade team too.

I definitely saw him on my last visit, two Sundays ago. Such a shame, but it seemed he lived a good life.
