figured it out, via some messing around with Google Translate!

I found an article mentioning one coming to a zoo which had been translated by Google into English. I got the original Japanese and put it into Google Translate (which obviously gave me the same "Avi senior colobus"). But the Japanese characters アビシニアコロブス when transcribed with English letters read "abishiniakorobusu". Google Translate still said this read "Avi senior colobus" but if you split it into two words - abishinia korobusu - the English translation magically becomes "Abyssinian colobus".

Pygmy Slow Lorises are being introduced to their new enclosure in the newly built (2016) 'Slow Loris Conservation Centre'. The Lorises are all individuals confiscated from Japanese airports

Hello my friends,
I am currently on my 15 days trip throughout Japanese zoos and aquariums and the day after tomorrow I will visit Japan Monkey Centre. May I know what is the best way to visit from Nagoya station? I have found two options:

1) Take the Meitetsu line train service, get off at the Inuyama station and take the bus to the centre (can't find the schedule of the bus service though).

2) Taking the same line, get off at the Inuyamayuen station and walk to the centre.

Any other option or advise ? Thanks for your help.

Jakub

From the east exit of Inuyama Station, take the Gifu Bus "Little World & Monkey Park Line" for about 5 minutes. Get off at the "Monkey Park" stop. The Japan Monkey Centre is located directly across the street.

The weekday timetable is as follows:

Departing from Inuyama Station East Exit to Monkey Park: 8:40, 9:35, 10:36, 11:36, 12:36

Departing from Monkey Park to Inuyama Station : 12:20, 13:29, 15:14, 15:59, 16:59, 18:09

Do you happen to know, what species are the bearded sakis in JMC and Higashiyama Zoo ? I'm a bit confused with current Chiropotes taxonomy:confused:
Thanks, Jakub

You can take the bus, but it might be quite crowded especially on the way back.
I usually take the bus from Inuyama station to JMC, and walk back.
The walk takes around 25-30 minutes.

A few years ago, JMC updated the scientific name of their bearded saki to align with the new taxonomy, changing it from C. satanas to C. chiropotes. However, at Higashiyama Zoo, the signage has not been updated and still uses the older taxonomy of C. satanas. Since the individual at JMC are genetically related to those at Higashiyama, the individuals at Higashiyama Zoo should also be considered C. chiropotes..

1.1 Sunda slow loris will be displayed at the Africa Center starting February 22.
Although they are not a JAZA member, they acquired their animals in November last year to cooperate with JAZA's breeding program.
As of the end of December 2023, a total of 24 individuals were kept at 6 facilities in Japan.

I remember being able to find jmc on JAZA’s animal search years ago. Did JMC lose it’s membership?
