Roaring News Alert!

You may have already heard, but it's time for a proper introduction! Meet our stunning new lionesses, Zuri and Alani!

Zuri, whose name means beautiful in Swahili, and Alani, meaning precious in Hawaiian, truly live up to their names. Come along to see their playful and majestic nature firsthand.

Sad news today as Tebe a 45 year old western lowland gorilla passed today due to an acute cardiac event. Tebe had lived at the park for 43 years and her son Ebeki still remains as the head of one of the family groups

What a great age, condolences to any regular visitors from here that knew her and obviously her keepers.

If anyone is visiting Howletts in the coming weeks, I'd be interested to know where the main Lion-tailed Macaque group is now housed. I could ask the zoo as well but a reply is not always guaranteed.

Thankyou. Are these the big mesh cages just above the Kitchen garden gorillas. Is that right? In which case the LTM's may have simply exchanged with the Mangabeys, it looks like.

Announced this morning on social media

We are devastated to share the sad news that Tai Wada, our beautiful, 15-year-old clouded leopard has had to be euthanised due to declining health and welfare.

Tai Wada, a friendly, trusting and interactive cat, was unique amongst his species, which are naturally elusive and reserved.

As a natural showman, Tai Wada was something of a camera hog and was always front-and-centre for any event revolving around the clouded leopard, especially on International Clouded Leopard Day, celebrated worldwide annually on 4th August.

Tai Wada will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

You did your species proud, now rest in peace Tai Wada!

Another summer is upon us and the Elephants still haven't departed. Is there any news on what is happening?
We did a elephant experience today, apparently they are crate trained and have been for a while, however when they go they do not know but when they do go it’s altogether via 2 planes and in 2 groups the keeper said today it could be 5 months or 5 yrs they still don’t know,

Achilles the Sumatran Tiger has begun a new chapter at another animal park in Europe, and we’re already missing him. He leaves us in the hopes he will successfully breed and help his Critically Endangered species.

This charismatic troublemaker stole hearts with his love of snacks, sunbathing, and backwards pool dips (front paws must stay dry, of course). His favourite things? Muntjac deer, blood ice lollies, Coco Chanel perfume, and boomer balls with holes for easy carrying. His least favourite? Chicken, early wake-ups, and sharing snacks, ever.

We’ll miss his nosey platform spying, lazy rolls, and that unmistakable charm. Enjoy the next chapter, Achilles, don’t let anyone interrupt your naps!

Keep an eye peeled for more tiger announcements soon!
