Kobe Animal Kingdom Kobe animal kingdom

The park announced that the kangaroo walkabout enclosure, currently called “Kangaroo Steppe” (and the square lawn next to it) will be closed down around the middle of December for a new exhibit. The end date if the exhibit has not been mentioned but from the sounds of the translation engine the exhibit will be gone for good, ending the display of red kangaroos and chital/axis deer.

On one hand I am excited for this development because there are still animals in the inside park (bush dogs, lowland tapirs, pudus, and pygmy hippos) that could benefit from a proper outdoor enclosure. On the other hand the kangaroo walkabout was a huge draw for the park. The park doesn’t much (if any) unused space left, so the kangaroo walkabout might be gone for good.

Let's hope for another exciting renovation.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure before since I only used the translation engine, so there may or may not have been some inaccuracies. I am not too excited since I believe there will be an expanded enclosure for a species the zoo already has rather than a new species. I just hope it won’t be as underwhelming as the Pantanal enclosure.

For those who don’t know, kangaroos were one of the first animals brought to KAK after the park got converted from Kobe Kachouen.

The park revealed the gender ratio and the names of the kittens. The kittens are Oto (0.1), Teru (0.1), Nagomu (1.0), and Mei (0.1).
The kittens were taken off exhibit since December 27 after keepers noticed a loss of appetite. Unfortunately female Teru has passed on. The other kittens are making a recovery. The only male of the litter, Nagomu, is also going to be separated from his mother and sisters. The display of Nagomu and his family will be alternating.

Personally I thing it would be a better idea to have Nagomu alternate with his father Naru rather than have his mother and sisters be put off display to what might be a small holding area.

Today is the last day the kangaroos and axis deer will be displayed. The construction will start tomorrow.
The park still hasn’t revealed what the construction is. However they announced on their website the destinations of their kangaroos. Eight kangaroos have been transferred to Kamikawa Yodel Forest while two were sent to Uminonakamichi Seaside Park.

The park also will acquire two small clawed otters (Tasuke and Sasanosuke) and a Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth from Hirakata park, an amusement park which phased out its live animal attractions. The animals are planned to arrive tomorrow.

The park will be having an exchange of spotted seals with Anzu from Yodel Park arriving tomorrow, and Minato leaving for Nasu Animal Kingdom on the 21st.

More animals are moving to Kobe from Hirakata park. Kobe animal kingdom will receive an unspecified number of maras, eclectus parrots, green wing and blue-and-gold macaws, and dogs.

Kobe also has received meerkats to replace gundis (honestly a bad choice), and also toco toucan.

Those animals are not from Hirakata park, since they are not listed on the on the petting zoo of Hirakara park’s twitter account, nor are they mentioned by Kobe animal kingdom among the animals from Hirakata park. The meerkats are likely from the backstage area since the park usually displays them during events or meet and greets.

Also arriving from Hirakata park is a tawny owl.

I'm not sure where exactly in the indoor area, but there seems to be some small construction happening in the kingdom. It could be for housing animals coming from Hirakata Park.

The map on the website doesn’t list anything either which does not help.

Speaking of Hirakata Park, the park has announced that red panda Sora will be sent to Kobe Animal Kingdom.

Sometimes the zoo adds new information to the website's map before announcing it, so I often check the map for updates. In response to this post, it mentions that small construction work is also ongoing near the former Gundis enclosure in the Contact Animals area. At least two indoor areas are under construction. Additionally, regarding the large-scale work in the Outside Park, the construction site is surrounded by a large white wall, making it difficult to predict what will happen.

The collared peccaries were taken off display in the 9th of April and the exhibition was closed on the 11th for renovations. It is not said if the peccaries will return or if this will be an exhibit for a new species.
