Zootierliste mentions the boxer pupfish (Cyprinodon simus). Bristol is one of 2 collections to keep it.

Does anyone who has more insight, know if there will be a replacement species for the eland, I understand the building work probably had delayed any animal arriving but I’m curious as it seemed a couple of years ago they were considering Nile lechwe but that species plan has changed significantly since it was published

Visited today
there’s a new juvenile crowned crane that’s joined the male, the volunteer said that it came from flamingo land
The middle avairy in the walled garden now how Socorro doves with the Bali starlings instead of the pink pigeon. The end avairy is unsigned so I’m unsure where the pink pigeons have gone and hopefully something will move to the end avairy soon
there’s more progress with the interior of the gorilla house and it looks like a substantial bit of the moat has been done
the bears are back out and a volunteer has said that the female lynx is being taken of contraception after a couple of years so hopefully there will be lynx cubs soon

Are we sure this is what was said? Flamingo Land haven't held Crowned Crane in many years (since at least ~2016)

Just went off what I was told, could’ve been moved to former. Holdings of the birds went off show maybe? Either that or the staff member was mistaken

African Forest update
main (new) news is that the gorillas will be moving in late summer
there are 8 rescued African greys, they’ve included a cute picture of them in the article as well
unrelated to the African Forest, on the zoos website it says that they have Sumatran laughing thrush once again

The gorilla move has been planned for late summer for a while now. They won’t be on show until 2026 though as they’ll be given time to settle in.
The appeal is only at £3,000 - not great for a £100,000 target.

Visited the zoo today
the paths and ground work has been laid for the tropical house, a volenteer said that it’s due to arrive before the Easter holiday but there’s been a number of delays
the internal fencing for the Benoue exhibit has changed, unsure why this is but hopefully there’s more exciting changes coming
all the birds were very active, it was the first time I’d seen them all in months

Uhhh, .... What ... Hell? How can it be that Bristolians and Clifton precincts close inhabitants and citizens don't seem to give a toss about their new Bristol Zoo?

No real surprise though..
The British public generally only donate to sanctuaries or sob-sob stories.
If they wanted donations they should have threatened to kill their own animals (that one seemed to work very well for those zoos which used it during Covid) - or maybe rescue some old geriatric animal of no conservation value from a war zone.
Plenty of tabloid coverage then - and lots of donations.

There's a certain PR issue at play because of the highly publicised and contentious move from Clifton, which was pushed on the basis that the charity would earn substantial profit from selling it's Clifton site, that would be pumped into developing the new site.
While I'm sure the funding for the new development has all been underwritten by the sale of the Clifton site (pending judicial review) and the fundraising is just additional revenue, like loads of zoos do when they build new enclosures. It's not a good look given the background of the closure of the Clifton site, nor has the fundraising effort being that highly publicised - probably in recognition of this fact.
