Hi,i am doing some research into mixed Marmoset/Tamarin exhibits, can anyone give me any pointers as to which collection's in the UK or Europe have mixed exhibits and what species are kept together, thanks in advance:)

The one that springs to mind is the Clore Rainforest Lookout at Regents Park, which has pygmy marmosets, silvery marmosets and golden headed lion tamarins (together with many other species) in a large indoor enclosure.

London Zoo keep Golden-Headed Lion Tamarins with Red Titi Monkeys and sloths the Clore Rainforest Biome. Silvery marmosets used to be kept in this exhibit as well, but on my visit yesterday, they weren't mixed anymore.

Chester keep Black Lion Tamarins with Pied Tamarins

Newquay zoo keeps pygmy marmosets (and maybe golden lion tamarins) with sloth, fruit bats, and some bird species.

Please specify the question, tamarins/marmosets species mixed together (which is quite rare in my recollection) or tamarins/marmosets mixed with any other species (which has a huge variety, there must be at least a dozen different species mixed with any tamarin/marmoset...)

I think the pygmy's may have been moved in with the emperor tamarins, though i am unsure about this (i read its somewhere just can't remember if it was a newsletter or website:confused:)

ps i hope this isnt true as the comic antics of the marmosets where a highlight in the rainforest exhibit:(

Monkeyworld has common marmosets, cotton-top tamarins and goeldi's monkey together from what i have heard. They also used to have geoffrey's marmoset in with them too.

I dont think Marwell has ever mixed and the same with most other zoos.

Marmoset & Tamarins

Hi,just to clarify i am interested in Marmoset & Tamarin species mixed together or with any other species, thanks for all the replies already given:)

Last year Twycross had a large family of pygmy marmosets housed with two golden lion tamarins . A small baby pygmy marmoset was being carried by one of the tamarins - the adult marmosets seemed to be relaxed with this ..

In January, belfast mixed a pair of geoffroys marmosets with their elderly golden lion tamarin. The enclosure opposite the monkey house was also home to a pair of goeldis monkey and black lion tamarin.

I think that Belfast has the largest number of tamarin/marmoset species in the UK - emperor, white-lipped, cotton-top, pied, golden - lion, black lion tamarins and pygmy and geoffroys marmosets. Also goeldis monkey ( are they a marmoset species?)

I always thought exmoor had the biggest collection...I may be wrong.

Some questions, spinx:

What kind of research is it?
Are You interested in mixed exhibits which still exists or do You want to know more about any kind of it wich has been tried yet?
Only in UK and Europe or worldwide?

In Australia we initially mixed Common Marmosets and Sun Conures. For reasons that are still unclear, this did not work as well as we had hoped.

We now house the Common Marmosets with Nanday Conures. This combination has been in place for well over a year with both species breeding successfully.

Went to monkey world yesterday and for some reason they didnt have the cotton tops mixed with the common marmosets. Someone mentioned Squirrel monkeys, I believe they were mixed with common marmosets at monkey world a few years back.

Monkey world have only just got their tamarins, and Im not sure if they're mixed in with the marmosets yet. I didnt see any evidence of the tamarins when I visited last week, so maybe they are not in exhibit yet.

Whipsnade had silvery marmosets and golden headed tamarins in the same exhibit which were free roaming and trained to return to the catch up when they rang a bell at the end of the day. There was some administrative issue about having the golden headed tamarins free roaming so they were moved in with the Saki monkeys in the discovery centre (this was probably about ten yeras ago)
