Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Cincinnati Zoo News 2025

I went to the zoo on Monday and noticed a couple of things:
- They are doing some sort of construction on the outdoor sifaka habitat in Jungle Trails
- All of the Penguins are off habitat in Wings of The World
- There is a sign in Wolf Woods saying that there is aggression in their wolf pack (possibly them fighting for who is alpha, not too sure)
- Construction on Bear Hill is going smoothly
- The new outdoor South American Primate habitat is getting finishing touches. Substrate has been laid out and they were planting plants and climbing/perching structures.
- Siamang Point practically looks finished from what I could see. Do we know if we have a set date on when it’ll open?

When I visited the Cincinnati Zoo in 2021 I tried looking for this exhibit and couldn’t find it. The Zoo said this was Manatee Springs but I didn’t see the exhibit.

They moved the Chinese alligators during the reptile house renovation for context. If anyone knows about this exhibit that would be great, thank you.

They are still on the reptile house in the center habitat. They were there and signed on my last visit.

I want to know what exhibit they were in during the renovation, I know they are currently in the center exhibit of the reptile exhibit, I just don’t know where they were in this video if that makes more sense.

According to a post on the Membership Facebook page, what appear to be Keel-billed Toucans are now in the former Rhinoceros Hornbill exhibit.

I'm guessing this confirms the Hornbill pair has been or will be moved to Elephant Trek.
Can confirm there are a pair of Hornbills in Elephant Trek. I saw them when I visited last Friday. There are indeed Toucans in their old exhibit.

Cincinnati Zoo | 150th anniversary | Thane Maynard | blooloop

The article mentions the second part of the elephant area opened on April 1. That includes the Asian small-clawed otters, siamangs, rhinoceros hornbills, babirusa and pheasants. The article also mentions bringing back sea lions and polar bears in the next decade. I am always skeptical of a zoo mentioning bringing back polar bears to their collection when they're so scarce in US zoos now, but we shall see!

So the new area opened yesterday! Does anybody have any pictures of it?

How ... fitting on April Fools' Day (even though ... I am somewhat disentangled from and unfazed about the phenomenon)! Anyhow, it is another great Thane Maynard narrative and speech at Blooloop where he goes out all inclusive on what phenomenal progress the old Cincinnati Zoo has made into the modern age and what impact it is making on One Healthy Planet ... through Act Local, Be Global. The great thing also that he specifically singles out some individuals that through their work past and present have made the Cincinnati Zoo the great zoo it is today...!

Oh and yes, ... some nice plans underway. Really ..., if Thane Maynard says so ... I do believe that bringing back sea lions with polar bears can be a new reality even within the current outlay of the Cincinnati Zoo!

A zoo volunteer told me the area is not quite finished yet - the opening was pushed back and no set date.
I didn't want to say anything earlier, but there's no way the zoo wouldn't have made a big deal about its opening. That, and I would have immediately come across a plethora of photos on the Facebook Membership page that exact day.

Edit: I'm also skeptical about the babirusas. The latest plan shows there's not room for them, and that same article that was posted on here earlier this year doesn't even mention them either.

I’m also assuming there won’t be room for babirusa but I’m wondering if they would ever make a permanent exhibit for the Visiyan Warty Pigs. Since the elephant trek seems like the zoo’s Asia section.

Just got word from someone who talked to a keeper that Phase 2 could open in the next week or two, and they mentioned from what seems to be their own observations: "there's no sign of the babirusas".

How could Trump cuts hurt Cincinnati Zoo?

A not so positive possibility for the zoo's future.
Not surprising. He cares nothing about education, animals or climate-related issues. He’s just a sad, greasy sack of McDonald's. They create the issues so they can save them. It’s like, if they made umbrellas, it would need to rain, right? Cincinnati will be fine. They have donors. Not many other Zoos will fare so well, though.

I hope they do not bring in babirusa. The exhibit looks like someone had fun with concrete in that small of an area.

Agreed, I am not a fan of how phase two looks from what we've been shown so far. Everything looks incredibly unnatural compared to what I know they're capable of. Not even waiting for vegetation to grow can save it. The original renderings looked so much better, especially the gibbon island portion.
