Even though a big loss for the Zoo ..., I am somewhat hopeful that the EAZA/EEP and China Zoo Association will be able to come to some agreement to have one of the male western lowland gorilla in the PR of China be transferred to the Shanghai Zoo and continue the local breeding program for the species.![]()

Yes, Golden Snub-monkey are generally easier to see, but those exhibited at Shanghai Zoo are usually minors or small individuals, while those exhibited at Shanghai Wild animal Park are more diverse. Are the Golden Snub-monkey’s easy to see at the zoo. I am visiting in May and want to know if it is worth me visiting the zoo to see them.
Are other species of Snub-nose Monkey also exhibited?Yes, Golden Snub-monkey are generally easier to see, but those exhibited at Shanghai Zoo are usually minors or small individuals, while those exhibited at Shanghai Wild animal Park are more diverse.
Only Roxellana, No Bieti Neither Brelichi. Are other species of Snub-nose Monkey also exhibited?
I am especially happy with the import of Laotian langur! Any idea what origins these 8 Laotian langur have? Zoo or capture from wild?New Animals Import Permission Granted In March 26, Importer Is Nantong Wildlife Park
Brown Lemur(Eulemur Fulvus)x4
White-Faced Saki Monkey(Pithecia Pithecia)x2
Laotian Langur(Trachypithecus Laotum)x8
I think the only zoo with all 3 species is the national zoo in Beijing.Only Roxellana, No Bieti Neither Brelichi.
They Are From Nantong Wildlife Park, Jiangsu, I Honestly DO NOT KNOW How Those Monkeys Came To China.I am especially happy with the import of Laotian langur! Any idea what origins these 8 Laotian langur have? Zoo or capture from wild?
What is the status of Laotian langur in PR of China? I seem to remember one of the major primate zoos in PR of China exhibits just a Laotian langur with another langur species (... I think it was ebony..., but unster like now), also a singleton.... Any further information how large the PR of China population for this species is????

Oh, sorry, what I mean is that the monkey group in Shanghai wild animal zoo exhibits individuals of different age groups and has a large population. At the species level, there is only a single species. Are other species of Snub-nose Monkey also exhibited?

I am also glad that these very rare langurs got transferred to Shanghai Zoo, their management and primate husbandry practice is way well advanced and the group is much better off here.Just to clarify, no new Laotian langurs would be imported. The document is about an newly-approved animal transaction between Nantong Forest Wildlife Park and Shanghai Zoo, and the referred langurs are the same individuals that I photographed last year. It seems Nantong will transfer all their Laotian langur stock to Shanghai. Personally I think it's a great decision as Shanghai has much more experience on the caring of rare primates.
I have an inkling that Dango may have had health issues for some time given that after the first baby gorillas both females did not rebreed.
Same Thoughts As You, Hope The Zoo Will Do Something Right For Brothers In The Future.I don't know what the deal is regarding Dango but he only bred with one of the females(Astra) and both young were male- they now live as two singles which isn't ideal either. I remember there was a lot of controversy(almost a furore) about exporting the three adult gorillas to Shanghai back in 2007 but they seem to have done okay with them. 33 is a reasonable age for a male. But the two adult sons (born 2008 and 2012) kept singly is not a very satisfactory situation.
Yes, there was an even bigger outcry when it was Bokito who was going to be the male! Enough for him to be replaced by Dango. The complaints weren't so strong with them after that.Same Thoughts As You, Hope The Zoo Will Do Something Right For Brothers In The Future.
Also Back At The Group Planning Phase, Originally Chosen Silverback Is Bokito(Male,1996/3/14-2023/4/4,Berlin, Mpenzi x Derrik)
All the outcry was absolutely baseless. The people that clamored the most had the least clue as to the stature and reputation of Shanghai Zoo as well as ...I don't know what the deal is regarding Dango but he only bred with one of the females(Astra) and both young were male- they now live as two singles which isn't ideal either.
