I'll be happy!

I would rather expect an African pygmy hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris) that is widely kept like a pet than any Erinaceus.

Thank you.
I wrote as "Erinaceus" since the sign said so, but the signs are quite unreliable in this zoo.

I uploaded a photo. What do you think?

By the way, it's neighbor Penang Bird Park claims to have Long-eared Hedgehog (Hemiechinus auritus) but I don't know for sure since I haven't had a chance to look at it.

Of course the ground squirrel is a nice gem of a species. The change in the reptile collectie is probably somewhat understandable with Physignatus more S.E. Asian than the sailfin lizard (Hydrosaurus sp. unknown ... - I would tend to think it may be the Sulawesi one given that trade between Malaysia and Indonesia is more intensive, whereas Philippine species would be more remote ... even though illegal wildlife trading through Sulu Archipelago / Manado connection is life ...).

I would love to see more native song bird species within the collection (vis a vis the domesticated birds on show ... - Yes, it is beneficial to have these for building immecdiate connections with local people and open up interest to the wider fauna and flora of Malaysia).

Thanks for your comment!
Sailfin dragons are actually quite common in Malaysian private collections, but the problem is they tend to not identify the species.

Yes, I agree that I want to see more local birds in these zoos. Malaysian zoos tend to have a lot more foreign species compared to local species, even in the larger zoos. Penang Bird Park, which is quite close to Kulim Bird Park, has one of the best collections for local birds in Malaysia, but still lacks species compared to foreign ones.

A quick update for this zoo

I visited again on November 9th, and the pair of Berdmore's Ground Squirrel (Menetes berdmorei) are still here.

It is still the only holding of this species in the world, according to Zootierliste.
