Longleat Safari & Adventure Park Longleat Safari Park 2025

Lara the red necked wallaby has recently become a four-time mum. Apparently keepers hadn't been expecting any new joeys this year as male Dodger moved on to a new home. However, the pregnancy happened via an "embryonic diapause"

I think I recall hearing about this on a documentary a while back. Does this have any to do with them having three vaginas?

But it's still a cute surprise for everyone.

From what I know they're still on hold atm as there's no bull and (providing they're still alive) Ella & Gertrude will be in breeding retirement which would leave

Kate - born 2010
Mary - born 2012
Tara - born 2015
Piper - born 2015
Nora - born 2013ish?
Shelly - born 2018
Thea - born 2019

So there would be at least 4 females that could breed maybe 7 if they use Kate, Mary & Nora. There was a female born 2014 called Odele to Ella. Unsure if she's still alive

How old are Ella and Gertrude and how many females having calves were there when Thorn was still alive and breeding?

Which giraffe are now left at Longleat and are they off breeding hold?

If Ella & Gertrude are still alive(no reason as to why they wouldn't be) they would be:

Ella would be 21 this year (born 2004) Gertrude would be 19 this year (born 2006)

Just been to Facebook just now and 3 Fennec Foxes are born
Is it just me given the parents of the fennec foxes don’t rear their infants why do they keep allowing them to breed? As this is like her 4th maybe 5th litter and none survived ? Doesn’t it say to stop and let them be ambassadors of the species instead of allowing her to become pregnant and being stressed by giving birth and then lost at what to do!

I suppose they are hoping things will finally click into place, or otherwise they may be prepared to hand rear this time. Don't know though-they do sometimes come across as a bit clueless. Management, I mean...

A new series entitled “Inside Longleat” begins on Channel 5 on Tuesday 22nd April. How much of the safari park is covered is unclear, as the synopsis implies it will focus upon the entire estate

I forgot to mention this from the other day, but here are some notes:
-The Easter event has started, and there was handling in the old sloth room. I saw ball python, Chilean rose tarantula and red tegu (probably others as well)
-also in there was some chicks(not sure of the breed)
But I doubt they had anything to do with the handling.

- The old parrot outdoor area has been redone for two little bunnies, but given all the egg-shaped signage I wouldn't be surprised if it was just for Easter.

-Spider Lab still has the curtains down.

-fam farmyard is open again after a hiatus over winter.

Not the individuals I was thinking of but great news

Introducing Lola and Hodor, two of the hippos who will be becoming residents of Half Mile Pond!
Lola, 21, and her son Hodor, eight, were born at Whipsnade Zoo and will be joining us once our new hippo complex is complete, with other hippos due to join the pod.
Want to get to know our upcoming arrivals?
Lola is inquisitive and well-mannered and loves to soak in her pond on a hot day.
Hodor is full of energy and has a big appetite and they both love to eat cabbage!
Work is continuing on the hippo complex, with the roof now in place.
To celebrate the new complex, we’ll be creating a time capsule, and we want your help for what should be included. Leave your suggestions in the comments.
