A couple of months have passed, and as we approach the New Year, I figured it was time to update this thread again, with the addra gazelle calf moving back behind-the-scenes, the passing of the final Barbary deer, and the arrival of the second herd of wildebeest. For fun, for the hoofstock, I have added (B) for actively breeding, (M) for bachelor group, (F) for female-only group, (FO) for female + offspring group, (FC) for female + castrated male group, and (+) for produced offspring in the last year.

I am in the early stages of planning a trip to San Diego and their zoos, I would like to see more of the Asian species, when you say paid safari is that the cart safaris as I know the deluxe cart safari will head into the Asian fields.
Also with the African tram, can you ride on it as many times are you like... in case you have missed a species?

The Deluxe and Asian Cart Safaris will both go around the Asian field exhibits on the old monorail path, and the Caravan Safaris can go into the two big Asian field exhibits, although I am not sure if you can specify the exhibits you want to go into? I’ve heard conflicting answers on that.
You can, indeed, ride the Africa Tram as many times as you would like, as it is free with admission to the Park. We
As a quick note: the Park no longer offers the 1-hour Cart Safari where you are able to specifically select Africa or Asia. It is now randomized. This change was made because guests were not booking the Asian Savanna tours in favor of Africa Plains. So, Max Blundell, your only way to be guaranteed to see the Asian Field and Hillside habitats will be on the Deluxe Cart.
Re: requests on Wildlife Safaris, I've had mixed experiences with this myself. On one occasion I requested Asian fields, and it did not happen. On another I asked to visit the South Africa field habitat to visit the Masai giraffe calf, and it was accommodated. From what I've heard, Asia isn't visited very frequently on Wildlife Safaris because it takes a great deal of drive time to reach relative to the African fields. But it does happen.
I would also note that I generally have luck viewing the greater one horned rhino with binoculars from Kilima Point. You can sometimes also catch a glimpse of the Przewalski's horses from the board walk that connects Tiger Trail and Condor ridge.

The Masai giraffe, roan, eland, springbok, and impala will be easy spots from the Africa Tram. The fringe-eared oryx, defassa waterbuck, Uganda kob, and red-fronted gazelles will be a little bit trickier because there are fewer of them (a single male in the case of the defassa waterbuck) and they can tend to be a little bit better hidden.
The red-flanked duiker, Soemmerring’s gazelle, and bighorn sheep should all be easy spots from the walking portion of the Park in their respective exhibits.
The Nubian ibex and Barbary sheep are going to be most easily seen from the Deluxe Cart Safari because they are in the hillside exhibits above the Asian Plains field exhibit, while the tahr and the sika could also be seen from a caravan going into the Asian exhibits. The tahr and sika are also tricky because the tahr like to hide amongst the rocks, and there are very few sika left.
The addra and slender-horned gazelles, dik-dik, and pronghorn are no longer on display at the Park.

I am traveling to SDZSF this july, but I only have one day to go there. What would be the recommended route to see all animals in one day? And is there any chance to see animals on the right side of the African tram in a caravan tour?

What year did the safari park phase out guar and where did they end up?
Hi there! I think a recommended route is going to depend on what you most want to see. For most people, that is the platypus, so starting in Walkabout Australia and then working your way through Tiger Trail and Condor Ridge before taking the Nature Path down to the lower African exhibits and tram area before ending in the upper Nairobi Village area makes a lot of sense. You can see the Somali wild ass/Soemmerring’s gazelle and the animals in the North Africa field exhibit pretty well from a caravan inside of the South Africa field exhibit, but you cannot see the African Forest field exhibit at all or most of the Central Africa field exhibit — which are home to the red-fronted gazelles and Ugandan kob, which are two of the Park’s biggest rarities.
The Park sent out their last breeding age animals to the Bronx in 2018/2019. The last elderly animal at the Park passed away in late 2021/early 2022.

There are only two fringe-eared oryx left on exhibit, so it will take a little bit of luck and patience!The common wildebeest program is managed at species level now due to a high level of hybridization between eastern white-bearded and blue wildebeest from animals coming into the population from the private sector. The Park has brought animals in from the private sector recently, so species level is the safest label for their animals.
