I don't say the Zoo is overall bad, although I don't find it as good as some others, but i do think they should temporarly stop keeping great apes in those tiny enclosures.

Orangs utans are solitary animals so the group can be split up. In my opinion, they should have avoided having such a large group in the first place.
 
I agree that the great apes shouldve been focussed one way earlier instead say build a new petting zoo or a new aviary in place of an only 10 year old exhibit, great apes and seal are the one reallyx weak points of Zurich we all know that but luckily they will focus soon on the Gorillas and the Orangs will hopefully follow soon

That is incorrect, technically only three of the zoos elephants are South East Asian/ Indian Elephants.

The zoos bull, Thai, is descended from elephants imported from India. Indi was imported from Myanmar and is the only wild born elephant at the zoo. Her daughter, Chandra's father was Maxi, was from Thailand.

However, the zoo's other two females (Panang and Farha) are also daughters of Maxi, but their mother, Ceyla, was from Sri Lanka. Meaning they're effectively half Sri Lankan Elephants, elephant maximus maximus.

Zurich have received a female gorilla from Saarbrucken - 0.1 Mayumi (2012) who was swapped for 0.1 Mary (2007).

Zurich intend to operate as a breeding facility for this species yet again, after a period of non breeding prior to N'Gola's passing due to his representation.
 
Zurich is going to welcome a female gorilla from la Vallée des Singes (France).
La Vallée des Singes on Instagram: " Un œil en coulisses : transfert La plus jeune femelle gorille de la Vallée des Singes a atteint l’âge de quitter son groupe de naissance pour en intégrer un autre dans lequel elle pourra se reproduire. C'est dans le cadre de l'EEP (EAZA Ex situ Programme) des gorilles que cette femelle, âgée de huit ans et désormais sexuellement mature, va intégrer le zoo de Zürich, pour participer, à son tour, à la conservation de son espèce. The female in particular is Ivindo (2017). Zurich is also set to acquire another female gorilla from Barcelona.
 
Some news about the Ndoki Forest:


Next year they will build a new greenhouse called Ndoki Garden where the mongolian exhibits for yaks and cashmere goats currently is. These species will leave the zoo. In that greenhouse the tropical trees for the tropical house of the Ndoki Forest will be stay to grow until they can move into the tropical house. Also some tropical african birds will move into the Ndoki Garden to gain experience about the species and if they can live together well. They will move later to the Ndoki Forest.

Also the newspaper "Tagblatt" published an interview with Dr. Severin Dressen about the Ndoki Forest. There they gave the information that some bird, amphibian and reptile species will roam freely in the tropical house of the Ndoki Forest. Also some new species were announced (see down in the list)

Also this monday was the GV (general meeting) of the zoo were they announced three bird species which will live in the Ndoki Forest.

- drill (Mandrillus leucophaeus)
- okapi (Okapia johnstoni)
- pigmy hippo (Choeropsis liberiensis)
- king colobus (Colobus polykomos)
- Roloway monkey (Cercopithecus roloway)
- northern talapoin (Miopithecus ogouensis)
- yellow-backed duiker (Cephalophus silvicultor)
- black-cheeked lovebird (Agapornis nigrigenis)
- Fischer's turaco (Tauraco fischeri)
- Congo peafowl (Afropavo congensis)
- maybe lowland bongo (Tragelaphus eurycerus eurycerus)
 
 
 
Hello,

I will be visiting the zoo for the first time in about a week from now. If anyone has any tips or advice, I'd be happy to hear it :)
