Has there been any news from Bioparc today? From what I've gathered there's been a massive power outage in Spain currently, which looks like it could have affected Valencia as well. I'm unaware how much power is needed to run the park or what facilities rely on it.
I'd assume some fencing uses electricity, which could cause issues housing some animals.

Valencia has been affected as the whole Iberian Peninsula. But there are not reported issues by bioparc, there were even visitors during the day as far as I concerned.

Understood, I have family over there I have been unable to contact all day so I assumed things would be shut down where possible.
Surprised about there being visitors around despite the power outage considering purchasing tickets would have been done electronically from memory.

As with most zoos you can still buy tickets at the park itself.
The only zoo that has mentioned anything when it comes to the power outage has been Oceanografic Valencia, which has been closed for today's evening. That being said, the power outage might have prevented other parks to make similar statements ahaha
Power is back in all of the Iberian peninsula (I'm not 100% sure, some friends I have in another part of the country haven't had power until 21:45 of tonight!) but I guess we will need to keep an eye out!

There's a video about how Bioparc Valencia reacted to the power outage but it's in Valencian language. Basically they said they used their own generators and the dangerous animals like gorillas or chimpanzees were sent to their selthers. They worried about not being able to heat the water for hippos and crocs, but that the animals were fine. The terrariums and incubators were also not affected thanks to the generators.

No otter seen on Thursday just gone. Kingfisher was seen in the aviary beside the lions.
Kingfisher is in the aviary as @AthleticBinturong have said, maybe not that easy to see but with patience you'll see it.. The spotted-necked otter enclosure is currently being restored, so no animals are seen there. The remaining female spotted-necked otter is in indoor enclosures, as are the other two Eurasian otters. The enclosure is being restored to accommodate the Eurasians ones. So is only visible the kingfisher at this moment.
The Bioparc company will invest 60 million euros in a park themed around the Silk Road:
- Rain Forest, the Bioparc concessionaire, presented this Monday to the mayor of Valencia, it's expansion plans for the unused land of the Bioparc concession in Cabecera Park, which includes the creation of three new thematic areas whose common thread will be the Silk Road. The company plans to invest more than 60 million euros to complete, in three phases, the construction of the unused space surrounding what we now know as Bioparc Valencia. It is expected that the first expansion will be finished for 2027 (Of wich construction has already started).
As detailed by the director of the Bioparc Foundation, Fernando González, the first phase, called "El Camino de Copto", will involve an investment of 18 million euros and will have new enclosures for emblematic African species, also with ships and a new tank for fish and corals.
The second phase, already underway, with an investment of two million euros, includes the old farm land surrounding the entrance area of the park, which will become a space dedicated to the history and culture of silk in Valencia, an industry that had great weight in the city.
The third phase of the expansion, the most important in investment with 44.5 million euros, will in fact be a new park that will occupy the empty land located on both sides of the Bioparc. It will be set in imperial China and will recreate the atmosphere of a Chinese garden where you can enjoy different recreational and cultural activities and where there will be a river course (With concept art featuring species such as takin and giant pandas).
The old plans that were presented showcasing a Southeast Asian themed water park have been discarded due to the elevated usage of water it would have involved, although all southeast asian plans haven't been discarded as there is concept art featuring tigers.

Interesting announcement, though I am curious to see if this will be a non-animal based project or a new zoo entirely. An Asian based Bioparc would be a welcome addition and would provide another push for Valencia to become a big zoo city for Spain.
