Dallas Zoo Dallas Zoo News 2025

Recently visited the zoo for the first time (April 19) and it did not disappoint (Though "Wings of Wonder" aviaries and the penguin exhibit were bit of stinkers to me). Absolutely enjoyed my visit despite spending the majority of my time in the African area so unfortunately missed out in seeing the Tuatara but did catch the Maguari Stork (Ciconia maguari). A pair of Coscoroba Swan (Coscoroba coscoroba) seem to have taken over the former Lesser Flamingo habitat where the "Wild Encounters" or ambassador showcase is. I also did not see any zebras as well in the mixed savanna habitat. Are the lessers and zebras relocated or BTS?

I heard that the former kopje aviary will become a play area, the empty vulture exhibit will have Lappet-Faced Vultures again, and that Safari Trail will have new exhibits for Colobus Monkeys and De Brazza's Monkeys on the future Safari Trail from Primate Place at Zoo North, also a crocodilian is temporarily in the Otter Outpost exhibit.

Found out it was Yacare Caiman, probably for the Herpetarium.

Good News about the Dallas Zoo future; Starting next year, they’ll begin work on the Safari Trail which will open in four phases, and have a new crocodilian species at the new cafe on Safari Trail known as the Slender-Snouted Crocodile and will have an underwater viewing area like the hippos, they will also have the penguin and cheetah exhibit combined and make it bigger and might have new residents like pelicans and cormorants, they also plan on making a new Colobus Monkey exhibit on the Safari Trail and the current Colobus Monkey home will be home to likely one of the primates at Primate Place like the De Brazza's Monkeys or Gibbons or even a new primate species, I also heard that the current African Wild Dog exhibit will be home to more lions once the Wild Dogs move to their new home, they also plan on giving the flamingos at Wilds of Africa a new aviary, looks like the future is looking bright for the Dallas Zoo!

Can you provide a source for this?

I don't know about you guys, but when I visited the zoo last month and chatted with one of the elephant keepers, I suggested that the next Mlilo calf to be born after Okubili (boy or girl) should be named Tantor after the elephant character from the Disney movie Tarzan and the book series. It's a very popular movie and it would really excite visitors. He thought it would be a great idea and said he might relay it to the other elephant care staff.

I have a few questions and fun ideas to add regarding all these.
A: will the zoo keep the African penguins and cheetahs with new habitats?
B: will the De Brazza's Monkeys live with the colobus in their new habitat in the Safari Trail or will they stay in primate palace?
C: if the De Brazza's Monkeys get moved, primate palace should be overhauled into a state of the art facility for clouded leopards langurs and gibbons with more room to move and glass viewing to complete the asian theming near the Tigers cranes and Asian small clawed otters. Perhaps they could even add an Asian aviary and a sloth or sun bear habitat in that vicinity.
D: The kudu and giraffes should be moved over to the wider savannah habitats up in the Safari Trail to coexist with more plains antelope zebra and white rhinos and give the elephant herd even more room.
E: The monorail should be replaced with electric powered CP Huntington steam trains that circle around the whole new Safari Trail and Chimp and Gorilla areas and have the train engineers give guests a guided tour abt the animals and the zoo's conservation work.
F: Will the zoo phase out Nile Crocodiles in exchange for Slender Snouted?

the zoo has officially announced this. the crocodilians are the zoo's ambassador Dwarf Caimans(look to be Cuvier's Dwarf Caimans). They are sharing the exhibit with Malaysian Giant Pond Turtles. The Asian Small Clawed Otters are not on exhibit as Berbudi is recovering from surgery and Shug is being kept alongside her for companionship.
