Chester Zoo Meerkats & Mongoose

Does anybody know why there are two meerkats near the tigers away from the main meerkat enclosure and also why is there one mongoose with the red river hogs whilst the rest are with the warthogs?

The main meerkat group is located by the Black Rhino enclosures, but there is a splinter group of just 2 meerkats in the former children's zoo.

The mongoose with the warthogs are banded mongoose and there is also a splinter group in the former children's zoo.

The mongoose with the RR Hogs should be the yellow mongoose (which were held in what is now the bush dog enclosure)

Is there a reason for the splinter groups?

Not that I know of.

You've said that you are attending the member's day in a few weeks, so perhaps you could ask the Rhino keepers because the banded mongoose and meerkat main groups both fall under the Rhino team section (the keepers should be in the Tsavo house on these days).

I've seen two yellow mongooses with the hogs.

There were problems with the meerkats, and I was told last year that a new pair would be brought in and breeding will re-commence from this pair.

Not sure about the banded mongooses but the Childrens' Farm animals could be young that have been removed from the warthog enclosure.
