Hi!

I visited this facility this month, and I'm writing a visit report with species list.

"Hua Hin Safari & Adventure Park", commonly known as "Hua HIn Safari", is a private roadside zoo near the city of Hua Hin. The facility is not accessible by public transport, like many other places in Thailand. You need to take a Taxi or GRAB to access the place.

The zoo's main attractions are old-fashioned animal shows and photo opportunities.
Here is the list of activities that the zoo provides to visitors:

Shows
- Elephants
- Tigers
- Crocodiles and Pythons

Photo Opportunities
- Orangutan (species unknown, wearing nappies)
- Asian elephant (chained)
- Tiger (White, Golden Tabby, etc, chained and drugged)
- Liger (chained and drugged)
- Cheetah (chained and drugged)
- Giraffe
- Crocodile
- Python
- Pale-throated sloth (not an official paid program)

Rides

- Asian elephant

Here is the species list.
I'm following the format on Zootierliste.

<Mammals>

Alpaca (Vicugna vicugna f. pacos (Syn.: Lama guanicoe f. pacos))
Asian elephant (no subspecific status) (Elephas maximus)
Cheetah (no subspecies-status) (Acinonyx jubatus)
Common zebra (Plains zebra) (no subspecific status) (Equus quagga (Syn.: Equus burchellii))
Domestic pig (No Breed-status) (Sus scrofa f. domestica)
Giraffe (no subspecies-status) (Giraffa camelopardalis)
Orangutan (no species or subspecies status) (Pongo pygmaeus (sensu lato))
Pale-throated sloth (Pale-throated three-toed Sloth) (Bradypus tridactylus (Syn.: Bradypus cuculliger))
Tiger (no subspecies-status) (incl. White tiger, Golden tabby) (Panthera tigris)
Western pygmy hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis liberiensis (Syn.: Hexaprotodon liberiensis liberiensis))

<Birds>

Blue-and-yellow macaw (Blue-and-gold macaw) (Ara ararauna)
Channel-billed Toucan (No Subspecific status) (Ramphastos vitellinus)
Greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus (Syn.: Phoenicopterus ruber roseus) (Syn.: Phoenicopterus antiquorum))
Keel-billed toucan (Rainbow-billed toucan) (No Subspecific status) (Ramphastos sulfuratus (Syn.: Ramphastos piscivorus))
Tanimbar corella (Goffin's corella) (Tanimbar cockatoo) (Cacatua goffiniana (Syn.: Cacatua goffini) (Syn.: Licmetis goffiniana))

<Reptiles>

Crocodile sp.
Python sp.

I don't know the species of the reptiles, since there were no signs, and I had to see the crocodile and python shows to see the animals, which I chose not to.

Overall, this zoo is full of chained and possibly drugged big cats and elephants, and far from modern standards of animal welfare.

The only reason to visit this zoo will be to see the Pale-throated sloth, which was my reason of visiting too. The zoo has three animals, and at least one will be on "special greeting" for around 30 minutes from 2PM every day. Staff will allow visitors to pet, hug and take photos with this animal.

I've already uploaded some photos in the "Thailand-Other" album, and more photos will be coming shortly!

Feel free to leave any comments or questions!

Thanks for the update on a zoo I'd never heard of, but reading about orangutans with diapers and drugged big cats is a bit depressing. It reminds me of a couple of places I toured in Thailand last summer. The Pale-throated Sloths are such a shock to be found in a zoo like this one.

I went to Zootierliste to check out the status of three-toed sloths in captivity just now, and it was a shocker that this zoo kept pale throated three toed sloths! A very unexpected species find in Thailand, or anywhere else for that matter indeed. I guess the Dallas World Aquarium isn't the only place that houses three toed sloths outside of South America now.

Thanks for your comments!

Yes, it is quite depressing to find such a nice species at this zoo.
It looks like they have a lot of land, so I hope the zoo shifts its concepts towards modern animal welfare standards by improving the facilites and ending old-fashioned shows.

Yes, it was a big surprise for me too! I changed the schedule of my Thailand trip when I saw the posts on Zoochat and luckily I saw it! The zoo is horrible, but the animal seems to be in a good condition for now.
