Tierpark Cottbus Tierpark Cottbus news

The expansion/renovation of the carnivore house was completed and opened yesterday. This means that with giant otters and ring-tailed vontsira 2 new carnivore species are kept. No word (yet?) about the fishing cats that were originally also planned. Four-eyed fish and leaf-cutter ants are other new species for this house. The ring-tailed coati and capuchins previously kept here, appear to have moved within the zoo.

Cottbus has the only Baird's tapirs in Europe.

Unfortunately their breeding male Moli died of pneunomia a few weeks ago.
That's sad news, he was only 19 years old, and his passing throws a spanner in the works for future breeding here. This calf was only the second at Cottbus following the birth of 0.1 Bonita in 2021.

I'm hoping breeding will continue. But that would likely require Chico being paired with his sister or niece.

Could Europe try to import Baird's tapir from North America?
