The young Falcon is a girl ; she has been called PENNY.An African pygmy falcon has hatched at San Antonio. It is apparently the only of its kind to have hatched in the past year in a US zoo. This is San Antonio's first pygmy falcon chick since 2004 with the breeding pair being hatched at San Diego in 2021 and 2023 respectively. The pair are off-show only having been together for a year - reported on their FB page.
I believe elephants will be the next project to start after they finish is gorillas in the fall. It's been discussed here already a lot lately, but the only zoos I can see giving SA one would Houston, White Oak, or ALS. I'm sure St Louis could also workOnce the Gorilla Habitat is Done, what's next?
And when Elephants do return, which zoos would offer them a herd from a matrilineal split?

“But the elephants are returning,” says Morrow. “Our next phase is going to involve returning Asian elephants to the Zoo.” Undeveloped zoo property on the other side of the freeway, behind the parking garage and the Zoo School will become the Zoo’s Asian district, with the elephants being the main draw.
he did at one point a few years ago say he wanted African Elephants, then nothing was heard for a few years and the next time he mentioned the elephants again was a new asian elephant exhibit combined with a whole new Asia precinct, so at some point Tim decided to drop African Elephants in favor of Asian Elephants.I’ll find it dammit, I can’t find any evidence at the moment, but I would bet my life on Tim saying he wanted African this time.
Back when Steven Mckuser was the director until 10 years ago when Morrow took over, there were plans to convert Lucky's small dilapidated enclosure in to much larger one and a bigger barn with proper stalls with trh ability to accommodate a herd of African bulls.he did at one point a few years ago say he wanted African Elephants, then nothing was heard for a few years and the next time he mentioned the elephants again was a new asian elephant exhibit combined with a whole new Asia precinct, so at some point Tim decided to drop African Elephants in favor of Asian Elephants.
