Mandai has not had male Asiatic Lions for over a year.

If its not Sipho then perhaps Timba from the Zoo has passed away. He had been sick for a while.

Is Mandai likely to stop breeding Asiatic lions? Was Vera, who was moved to Japan in 2024, the last Asiatic Lion at Mandai? What happened to the male Rahul?

Also, according to the information on September 28, 2023, there were 7 females. (One of them, Bala, was moved to Japan with Vera.) If you know their ages, parent-child relationships, etc., please let me know.

Unfamiliar with names but I asked the keepers about this at some point. Of the 2 male Asian Lions, one of them was sent to Japan and the other passed from old age. It's most likely the one that passed was Rahul then
Thank you for your response. There are three Asiatic lions in Japan, all of which were relocated from Mandai. The first male to arrive has grown a magnificent mane since he moved and is very beautiful. Vera, who came last year, has a very gentle face. Bala, a female, had been holed up in the backyard for a long time, but she has become very good friends with her caretaker and is finally able to go outside. They are old, but they are lovable and popular.

A single Eurasian Eagle Owl (at least it seems to be) currently occupies the enclosure inside the Amphitheater, the 2nd enclosure is currently empty for now except for a large dish of water

Edit: Edited to mention that apparently the 2nd enclosure houses a Reticulated Python

Tina the Tamandua is on display in the former Spectacled Owl enclosure alongside a single Grey-Handed Night Monkey, the other pair still lives with the Kinkajou and Brazilian Porcupine

Meanwhile on the Leopard Trail, the Gambian Pouched Rat enclosure has been taken over by Sunda Scops Owls. These individuals seem to be smaller than the ones at the East Lodge

Quite surprised by the numbers. Are they planning to breed them?

The older three (Snickers, Jesse and Panini) are elderly devils at six years of age. They arrived as post-reproductive surplus at three years of age (female devils must be provided with breeding opportunities by two years of age to remain viable breeders).

Australia typically exports non-breeding surplus to free up space for their breeding population.

Imports of this species from Australia can take quite some time - so they were obviously eager to take the opportunity to acquire this younger quartet, and not be without Tasmanian Devils once the older trio pass.
