North American Andean Bear Population

1.0 Andean bear “Ben” will be transferred from the Gladys Porter Zoo to ABQ Bio Park in the coming weeks.
Gladys Porter Zoo on Instagram: "Ben, the renowned Andean bear, will soon be journeying to his new long-term home at the @ABQBioPark! Wish him "bearwell" when you visit us this weekend! His last day in his public habitat will be September 28th at 3:00 p.m. Ben transferred to the Gladys Porter Zoo from St. Louis Zoo in March 2023. His move here was only temporary until a more long-term home could be established. Now he will be making the journey to Albuquerque, New Mexico where his new caretakers will be eagerly awaiting his arrival. Not confirmed. Since he's leaving on a breeding recommendation, my best guesses are either to Reid Park to breed with 0.1 Oja, or to Nashville to breed with 0.1 Luka. I believe he's related to almost every other female in the population through the Billie Jean bloodline.

He's in Cleveland. The zoo just posted it this morning-

New addition! Cleveland Metroparks Zoo welcomes 5-year-old male Andean bear, “Sinchi!” We are excited for Sinchi to join Pacha at Susie’s Bear Hollow located in the Zoo’s Wilderness Trek destination. Like other bear species, Andean bears will come together in social situations. Guests can visit Sinchi today!

Apparently it was shared on the tour bus yesterday that he will be leaving in a few days to start a new life at another AZA facility. As much as I’m sad to see him go, I’m excited for him to have new adventures and experiences. He has the best personality and I have no doubt everyone will fall in love with him his new home as they have here! These are some photos and videos I’ve taken of him over the past couple of weeks. 3 year old Ransiaku will be leaving the San Diego zoo shortly for another AZA accredited institution.
