Buddy the bear has sadly passed away on Monday. The zoo made the difficult decision to euthanize him.

She certainly looks pregnant!The keeper suspects that the Malayan Tapir, Sanaé, is pregnant due to her round body. If she is pregnant, she is expected to give birth in the fall/winter.
The keeper said they are allowing their couple to breed freely. If there is a new calf born this year, they will reach their maximal capacity. So they will send out either Margarite or Eddy(tapir), since they have both reached sexual maturity. Tao, the male Malayan Tapir, really loves to mount Sanaé(he became aggressive), so that is why they were separated last year in the fall and reintroduced together this spring. It is amazing that they have such success of breeding this species.She certainly looks pregnant!
If so, it's great news, especially for the wider regional program which needs every baby it can get. It's good that the zoo have also allowed her to breed at rather natural intervals. For interest's sake, these are Sanae's last two calves;
0.1 Magarite (March 2022)
1.0 Eddy (October 2023)
This is amazing news, the zoo had so much success in breeding this Malayan Tapir couple 3 times(2022,2023 and 2025). We will have to wait for Rosie to grow up and potentially the zoo sending out Margarite and Eddy to other zoos(hopefully AZA) since they reached their maximal capacity after Rosie was born. I think I have to make another visit there.
Rosie the Malayan Tapir just debuted today with her parents, Sanaé et Tao. There was a lot of guest to see them. She debuted on September 13.
Both Porcupines have joined a large forested enclosure.A baby north american porcupine was born to a mother that arrived at the Miller Zoo in mid-march. She was rescued from an accident.
