Zlín Zoo zoo Zlín

I heard that an old couple in Zlin was mixed with young ones born in Dvur Kralove in 2024. This would mean that one of the parents was very young . Can anyone confirm this?

So did they form two pairs? And if so do we know which pair bred? This certainly may is exciting news! Three breeding pairs currently in Europe with another potential 4 pairs who still may reproduce too! It will interesting to see which zoos choose to add this amazing species to their collections! It would be nice to see the return to the likes of Berlin tierpark and Halle!

In 2026 i will join a dutch zoo tour (Zooinside.nl) and visit zoo zlin.

What is funny is that the Karibuni is a project i read about in 2018 (i guess) , but i thought the project was in Ostrava. When i tried to check on it i couldn't find anything about it.

Are the African Elephant and Lion exhibit early phases of this plan ? With Rhino's and Giraffes next ? Hippo's and Gorilla's to follow in the future ?

I'm already really exited.

Yeah! You can already see the elephants and the lion exhibit should be finished in September this year.

I would be interested when the new lion exhibit will open, the zoo doesnt communicate any date yet. (An article mentions that all Czech zoos together keep 61 lions while our private sphere has currently 138 lions so there is enough "rescue" animals to source from.)

And I got surprised by rent price for the 2-bed room the zoo offers during summer. It starts at 400 eur. It includes a private guided tour, dinner and night access to the zoo, but still outside my price range.

Hell has frozen over and the zoo put its 2024 annual report online (czech/english). Link

It is rather short and lacks table with numbers of animals per species. But at least it lists species. Interesting additions not listed in ZTL yet (I guess kept off-show):
  • Barred Eagle-owl (Bubo sumatranus)
  • Folohy Golden frog (Mantella laevigata)
  • Fire-tufted barbet (Psilopogon pyrolophus)
  • Lesser blue-eared glossy-starling (Lamprotornis chloropterus)
The zoo kept 215 species. Annual income was 9,5 mio euro, and 1,3 mil were subsidies.

Future investments are well known already: Nusantara with tapirs&co (2027 opening), vombats (2026 opening).

It mentions that 2 gaurs were born, and I copy-pasted bird section of offspring:

3 plum-headed parakeets, 2 scarlet macaws, 2 hyacinth macaws, 2 chestnut-fronted macaws, 5 Guianan toucanet, 3 woolly-necked storks, 4 Eurasian hoopoes, 2 yellow-necked spurfowls, 2 secretary birds, 3 white-faced whistling ducks, 5 scarlet ibises, 1 black-faced ibis, 2 wattled cranes, 5 roseate spoonbills, 29 lesser rheas, 10 yellow-billed storks, 1 milky stork, 1 painted stork, 1 Australian pelican, 1 great white pelican, 3 spot-billed pelicans, 11 white-winged ducks, 2 spotted wood owls, 2 Inca terns, 1 Eurasian griffon vulture, 2 black vultures, 1 Egyptian vulture, 2 Rüppell‘s vultures, 7 little owls, 1 red-winged starling, 1 grey-winged trumpeter, 2 red-rumped caciques, 6 green oropendolas, 3 yellow-rumped caciques, 3 brown-breasted barbets, 1 white-
