Any news on the monkey jungle? have the monkeys been destroyed? I hear they have or are getting some new gorillas, any truth in that?

The monkeys are still under tests. I'm annoyed as i'm on a works trip to longleat in july, and it probably won't be open for then.

As for gorillas, they won't get anymore until Nico dies. Its been discussed on other threads reasons why etc.

Thanks, Pity about the monkeys I hope they prove negative. As for the Gorilla I was thinking that, but I wasnt sure if he was still alive or not. Do you think they will get more gorilla for sure?

i was watching animal park the other day and the gorilla keeper quoted "when we first got Nico and Samba the gorillas, we were hoping to breed from them, but the just grew up as brother and sister, peicferlly watching the world go by"

i'll be glad if they do get more gorillas but i think they should expand that island and build a new house or put an extenstion on . Or even build a new gorilla house some where else in the park (not the safari though) and put some drills or some sort of monkey on there.

if they want to but monkeys on the island, somthing notable, like mandrills, drills or a large baboon species, and have to build another gorilla enclosure elswhere, because guests may be dissapointed with the other monkeys they've already seen on safari

I went to longleat yesterday and the monkey bit was closed off. You could see them through the wire so they were outside and on the website it says only one of the monkeys have herpess so hopefully they wont al be killed. and there is no new gorrila Nicos still alive and alone. The man on the boat says they are NOT going to replace samba and nico will live alone for the rest of his life.

actually Nico & Samba came to Longleat as fully grown animals from a Swiss Circus(Knie). They had already grown up together with no chance of breeding under those circumstancces.

thanks, thats just what he said on animal park

A quick google search indicates its only really a risk to the macaques and us. Besides, if there was a possibilty of the buffalo and black buck becoming infected, it would not be wise to then move them into another area where there are other animals for it to be passed onto.
