Popped in to see the new mouse lemurs.
Fantastically showy, good amount of red lighting affording good views, eating well, active every time I passed (with a little patience).

low light is well beyond my photography abilities sadly but record/demonstration shot below from iPhone.

recommend a visit to anyone as the rest of the collection is charming and packed with rarities. IMG_0848.jpeg

47 reactions | We've had a bit of a baby boom in our FROG room! We're one of the few zoos in the UK with black-legged dart frogs and we've succesfully reared some tadpoles into tiny froglets. They join our older froglets from last year and our adult group you can see in our FROG room. Classified as endangered, breeding these frogs helps preserve populations in zoos and aquariums. | Shaldon Wildlife Trust

Visited this weekend for the first time (son had a junior keeper experience).

What a lovely little zoo! Everything was immaculate and all the enclosures were modern and well looked after. Nothing looked tired or old.

Met many of the staff and volunteers who were all super helpful.

Junior keeper experience was brilliant. We met loads of animals including the tortoises, lemurs, meerkats and tamarins. We also got a cuddle with the armadillo and got to watch multiple feedings. Oh and we made some enrichment for a few of the monkeys. Overall a super day and great value!

On September 27th, the zoo announced they acquired a male (1.0) Savu Island python named Damian from Hopwood Hall College in Greater Manchester the week prior, which is on exhibit. The zoo also announced their previous male python, Hassan, passed away earlier in 2025.

1.3K views · 43 reactions | More about our new arrivals from last week. First up is Damian, a Savu island python. We previously housed Damian's brother here at the zoo, Hassan, who unfortunately passed away earlier this year. Damian has joined us from Hopwood Hall College and is settling in very well. Savu island pythons are only found on the Savu island in Indonesia. They are classed as endangered, as their populations have been heavily harvested for the pet trade. | Shaldon Wildlife Trust
