North American Asian Elephant Population 2025

Little Rock Zoo have two elderly Individuals Zina and Babe and how are they are going to renovate to house new blood individuals alongside Bronx Zoo has to overhaul their Elephant Habitat in the Wild Asia Monorail?

Bronx has stated no more elephants. But if they reconsider they should do bull elephants instead with some renovations to their current facility. They have 3 stalls so it’s already set up.

Phoebe is the second female. No announcement on Rudy yet. I think she’s the one they said that is difficult at times. Hopefully Johnson will be able to get her bred at her age.
Unfortunately things haven't been looking great on Rudy's chances. She's certianly somewhat of a "problem" female in that she's been very cautious or unreceptive around any new bulls she's placed with. It took her a long while to warm up to Sabu, who she did end up breeding with but evidently didn't take. Her and Johnson didn't really hit it off either with her being terrified of him and him chasing her down, far from the ideal scenario for her ticking clock. And afaik they haven't been housed together consistently or at since, which would make sense given they've been largely keeping Johnson on his own due to 2/3 females being pregnant and him not being "needed" outside of with Rudy. Perhaps these circumstances have changed since, but I haven't seen much to indicate otherwise.
I'm not sure if Johnson's behavior was strictly with Rudy or if it extended to the other elephants (though I'm inclined to say that it was moreso with her since I did see pictures of him interacting with Frankie seemingly without issue), but it's definitely not the best circumstances. Perhaps Raja may be the better bull for the job, if it isn't too late already.

It seems very strange that Johnson has been behaving very aggressively towards Rudy, let alone her being afraid of bulls.

True I did see talk that their barn can accomadate about 3-4 individuals, which makes it perfectly set up for a small bachelor troop. I still think if that were hammered out, they'd have to expand the outdoor yard and maybe the barn a bit because most modern elephant habitats are around 2 total acres at the very least. I believe the reason you think Bronx should manage a small bachelor group after Patty and the infamous Happy drop dead is because I belive when they said they won't house elephants in the future after the cow aforementioned cows about 20 years ago now, I think they meant "They'll never house elephants that way again" meaning they won't separate non compatible cows from eachother like they're doing now. But i don't thibk they ever meant a full blown phase out. The Bronx Zoo has housed elephant for over a century more a less and should continue to do so in my opinion.

We're going in circles.

I see that over a week has passed, and Columbus still hasn't yet named Sunny's girl calf. Normally naming calves happens just a day or so after birth

This is not surprising at all, there may be one or two zoos out there that name their calves immediately, but Columbus does not have a history with doing that, they usually name their calves when they are a month old or so. This is what most zoos to to put this out there.

Yes exactly, in fact I believe it is only Houston, OKC, Fort Worth that usually announce their calves' names with the birth announcement and Saint Louis jumped on that Bandwagon this time around with Jet. Most zoos avoid naming calves right off the bat because newborn animals are very fragile and anything could happen, it helps avoid the public from getting too attached too soon. Same reason why most zoos wait until the later months of pregnancy to announce.

I think they are having a naming contest. I will have to back and look at their Facebook posts.
I believe a donor or the keeper staff will be naming her. I haven't heard or seen any posts announcing a contest (unless they revealed it in a comment section). Columbus has strayed away from naming contests in recent years, I don't remember one for any animal since around the time Ellie was born.

Looks like Brazos and Travis are beginning to share the same space! I believe this isn't their first "playdate" but hopefully a step towards Bluebonnet being reintegrated with her mother and sister.
Fort Worth Zoo
Honestly it's kind of baffling that it took this long, but with Rasha and Angel not really getting along I can see why they've taken their time with reintegrating Rasha with one of her daughters.
