Zoo Leipzig Leipzig Zoo News 2025

Had a really good first visit to Leipzig today, despite researching it a lot I struggled to navigate around but still managed to see most of what I wanted to through the heatwave. The pangolins of course were the highlight, it was incredible to be able to see them since they're so rare in both the wild and captivity but they were so beautiful, the minute I entered the elephant house I was greeted with one next to the glass which was such a delight.

Other memorable moments was seeing the sloth bear, quolls, flying squirrels and of course Gondwanaland, though again I got lost multiple times in there and had to keep asking staff for directions  It was lovely to be in such an enormous tropical environment however, looks great.

Another thing I saw was a pair of the black rhinos were socialising between the fences that divided their enclosures, and the one on the right hand side even managed to knock some of the wooden posts down which it proceeded to eat. Nothing that damaged the actual structure of the fence as far as I could tell though.

Since it's a little out of the way for me I'm not sure when I'll be able to come back but hopefully if Vienna Zoo are still planning to get pangolins then I'll be able to see them there too. Overall a great day!

In February 3 Chacoan peccaries (Catagonus wagneri) were born, sadly only 1 survived.

In February Leipzig and Wuppertal exchanged male Michie's tufted deer (Elaphodus cephalophus michianus). Paul was send to Wuppertal and Janno to Leipzig.

In March the zoo received Tokay geckos (Gekko gecko) from Zoo Wuppertal, they were added to Gondwanaland.

Sadly 21-year old female Western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) Kibara also passed away a few days after Kibo.

Currently the male Lesser rhea (Rhea pennata) is incubating eggs.

Recently male Southeast african lion (Panthera leo krugeri) Bahati was send to Tierpark Gera, currently Leipzig has 2 females left, hopefully a new male will arrive at some point.

In March 2 Bearded emperor tamarins (Saguinus imperator subgrisescens) were born.

#ZooLeipzig #DerNaturAufDerSpur #Nandu #Zoo #Leipzig #Familienausflug"

It's a little female, that has been called KIRI.
#zoodresden #koalajungtier #koalas #dresden"
