Toronto Zoo Toronto Zoo Developments 2025

What a great report. It is nice to see Vishnu outside again. I am curious what the zoos plan with him is. The zoo is planning on phasing out GOHR, but with all his medical needs with his feet and skin, I am note sure they will want to send him out. Time will tell.

The new wooden ramps at the front are temporary during construction, once the entrance is done, they will be removed.

I believe the turtles in with the babirusa are some from Indomalaya pavilion, perhaps the Burmese Mountain Tortoise?

That new boardwalk opened this spring, connecting the core woods boardwalk and the tiger boardwalk.

Presumably if you saw two gorillas, that would be the two boys.

As for the giraffes, when I was there last there was a short period of time that Mstari went in and Kikio was left outside, also they tend to have access to both enclosures, and I have seen Kiko go down to the further enclosure sometimes.

The zebras are two females, Tori and Maizy, and a castrated male, Poe.

There is currently only one tiger at the Amur tiger exhibit, female Maizy. The two sumatran tigers (1.1) Hari and Kamala are back over outside the Idomalaya Pavilion.

Not surprised to hear about the macaw island, unfortunately Avian flu seems to be here to stay.

The cranes in Australasia are Demioselle cranes (1.1) Ivan and Olga

Yes! Thank you lol.

Went back to the zoo today briefly on my way out of town, seeing as The Great Glasses Fiasco of 2025 ate my time yesterday so I missed a few things. I took advantage of the promo on zoo memberships they had at the start of the month so for the first time ever I have a membership.

I went back to ride the zoomobile in its entirety, do the kangaroo walk-through, and see the half of Eurasia I missed when I lost my glasses.

When you’re on the zoomobile just past the Africa stop, there’s a small barn with stalls. What animal(s) live there? I’ve attached a picture.

Could see two giraffes out when we zoomed past their enclosure.

Younger herd of Asian Wild Horses were out in that field I said was empty yesterday. Only the Yak were in the zoomobile-exclusive area, but they were actually standing up!

Also, right after you leave the main entrance on the zoomobile, there’s a fenced area with a fake mountain and cave with nothing there. What was that before?

Doing the ‘roo walk, only the big male was out, chilling in the shade. The rest were down the side area lying on the cement. Asked the keeper and they have 7 kangaroos currently…4 males and 3 females. She said they’ll be checking pouches soon, think it’s possible there’s a baby but no proof yet.

Another question. If they’re seemingly almost done the new savanna barn for animals like warthogs and zebras per the signage, why would they be looking to possibly get out of having zebras?

edit to add: compared to yesterday, the area we’ve speculated is for the highland cows looks like it might be ready? Fence and structure is done anyways, so we might get that announcement soon!

It is the Himalayan Tahr exhibit, they were down to two old males last year, I am not sure if they are still alive.

I am not sure, isnt it the back area of the watusi exhibit? I think it is the back area for the watusi

Not phasing out zebras. Phasing out warthogs naturally after they die. But zebras are definitely staying at the zoo and I would be looking at us adding more to the 6 that we currently have

Tender is out for the Red panda habitat construction. Hopefully we will see that happen over the fall and winter, so that the indoor cooled area will be ready for next summer.

Are Hari and Kamala on exhibit together? Has the second yard been repaired or are they switching off?

The second exhibit has been repaired. I believe they are switching between the exhibits. They have mesh to mesh access and both seem very happy to be neighbours again. I got to see them be reunited and Kemala was chuffing at Hari and licking his head through the mesh between them.

Wow, that is way more expansive than the initial renderings I saw a few years ago, looks like a great update with two indoor and outdoor areas for the pandas!

Really hope to see this come through to fruition like this, and more projects like this! A+

I'm a little sad the Highland cow exhibit is at the Eurasian Wilds station, means I have no chance of getting out of the Zoomobile for a better look at them next time I visit the zoo, but I'm happy they're there anyway. I hope I can at leas get a good picture of them sometime! :3

Also, am I gathering this correct, that the axolotls are gone, or am I misreading something? :c

Also also, kinda depressing to hear how unpopulated the Kids Zoo has become. I think of all the areas of the zoo, that one needs an overhaul and a slew of new animals the most. If this were the appropriate place for it, I'd gladly share what my dream plan for it would be--just know my vision involves a nice big farmyard area and boy do I know my farm animals and their varied breeds to nominate for such a spot!

The Highland Cows are actually accessible on foot. They opened up that portion of the zoomobile road to foot traffic, so you should be able to get off the zoomobile and see them.

They axolotls are currently in one of the open-topped tanks in the tanager aviary of Americas. I believe their current habitat used to hold Florida Gar?

The small barn just past the African zoomobile stop is a barn for the watusi if needed. It was used last year for one of our male zebra temporarily as well.

The fake mountain habitat was for our two Himalayan tahr brothers but sadly they both passed this winter. Both were quite old for their species but sad none the less. I think they may use that habitat in the future for another animal, maybe a couple of the West Caucasian Tour?

Yes one male and one female are in that tank, there's also one behind the scenes that was being picked on by the other two.

Oh, I mean that I wouldn't be likely to get off at the Eurasian Wilds Station, I'd be riding past it... <:3 Also I'm happy the axolotls are still there and now have a bigger home! :'3
