Are you still allowed to breed them in Poland?

I´m unsure about exact rules in Poland. But in Czechia, several zoos obtained a permission from local authorities to keep and breed Reeves muntjacs. For example, Zoo Hluboka obtained this species this year, a nice group of 1.3 and expects first calves soon. I guess Poland handles it in similar way.

A bit incomprehensible imo. They should be relatively easy to replace with another hoofed animal.

Today, city of Opole (100% owner of the zoo) voted to change formal form of the zoo on 1st April 2026. Instead of budgetary organisation, it will be a Limited company. The city will retain 100% ownership, however most decisions will be done by board of directors (a new body).

Another article discusses future plans of the zoo
- pawilon ewolucje - educational exhibit for children, with fossils and touch objects etc.
- to get a new partner for their single manned wolf and serval.
- construction of new antelope pen in spring 2026
- arrival of zebras and jaguars in spring
- existing animal shelter (for dogs and cats) will remain part of the zoo even after form change into LMT
