The red-crowned mangabey has been off display for a couple days. Has anyone seen the species recently?

It has been said there are four left in the United States, one at Denver and two at Binder Park - does Kansas City only hold one individual?

I haven’t seen the mangabey at all this year. They had two as of last year, but I know at least one of them has since passed away. I’m not sure if the last one died as well, but the species has been removed from the zoos physical map. Is the species still signed? When I was last at the zoo, the signage had been removed.

I have been looking over the online map for a couple days. The species is listed and marked on the map, but like the giraffe is marked "off display" when you select the species. By the way, this feature is super nifty!

I haven't visited yet but am planning to visit later this year.

My bad, I had assumed you had already visited. The online map is not super up to date. There are species missing from it that have been recently added, and it still says the Kopje section is under construction when it has been completed for a few months now. The map is pretty accurate as far as which species will be out on a daily basis though.

I’m guessing it says the mangabey is off display because they are no longer on exhibit, and they just haven’t removed the species from the online map yet. The species is likely gone from the collection unfortunately.

Thanks for the insight. I did notice the Kopje discrepancy but it's mostly the species visibility part that is fascinating me so much. There's been a few times I've missed a species and been unsure if was timing or just off display so I found it really cool to imagine I could just check the map and know. I'd love to see more zoos do this.

Very sad to imagine the species has left the collection but not surprising. I've seen them at Binder Park and only became more fond of them, unfortunately.

36K views · 868 reactions | Seahorse introductions! Animal care specialist Matt provided us with a glimpse of a young lined seahorse’s first day in the adult habitat. As many of you may already know, a fascinating fact about this species is that male seahorses have a brood pouch and will carry eggs during incubation. Once a baby is born at Sobela Ocean Aquarium, it spends time behind the scenes until it is large enough to reside with the grown seahorses. In this clip, watch as Matt releases one of these youngsters into the “big kid” pool! This particular juvenile was born on October 31 and is now able to eat a diet consistent with the other adult seahorses. Matt tells us that the little one has been settling in well with its tank mates and parents! | Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium
