Fota Wildlife Park Fota Wildlife Park News

0.2 lion-tailed macaques have gone to Colchester Zoo, as reported by @DesertRhino150 on that zoo's news thread:
The zoo has now announced this arrival - the two females are named Kizzy (who is 22 years old) and Jade (who is 15) arrived from Fota Wildlife Park on 16th July. The two females have settled in well with resident male Connor (21 years old), and the zoo is hoping to breed the macaques.

I didn't know one of the females was actually older than the male - I guess his appearance makes him look more aged than he actually is.

It turned out to be Dao, instead:

This is interesting, since Dao arrived to Fota relatively recently, and has been here for less time than Batak, I think.

Hhmmm; given that the two tigers at Paignton are seemingly incompatible for breeding, did FOTA send the wrong male tiger? Sounds ridiculous, but I don’t understand why it’s been done this way - there must be a logistics rationale…., anyways, I hope it all works out for everyone.

My apologies for posting the wrong info, I was told the wrong tiger.
It seems such a strange move. Batak is there 10years this year and is not to be bred from.
Dao is only there since December and was supposed to be bred with Jambi. The pair had been getting along fine originally but I hadn't seen them together in a few months, maybe things have changed? Either way it's confusing.

Fingers crossed for a new breeding male in Fota soon.

The redbellies arrived when Madagascar opened. They were housed next to the ringtail but were taken off show to allow more space for the ringtails due to aggression within the group. Blue eyed black lemurs were also due to arrive at this time but I'm sure this did,nt happen.

In a recent interview the director says the Madagascan village is due to open very soon, with housing for black ruffed and ring tailed lemurs and new additions, red bellied and blue eye black lemurs.
He also says they had to wait 5 years for the recently acquired sloth. (Which I found a bit surprising.).
On the website there is a report about golden mantella frogs, also due to be exhibited in the Madagascan Village.
It all sounds promising and I have heard of a few more expected new species but not confirmed yet.

Obviously this plan was derailed somewhat by Covid.
