You can see from the film that dad Inesperado is very pleased with his adorable twins, he carries them around handing them back to mum Jayda for feeding. Cotton-top tamarins are from a small forested area of northwestern Colombia. In the late 60’s and early 70’s around 30,000 were taken from the wild for medical research. Today the most significant threat to their survival in the wild is human activity and deforestation, it is estimated that only five percent of its habitat remains. Their numbers are on decline and the IUCN rank the cotton-top tamarin as critically endangered with a high risk of extinction in the wild. On April 27th, 2025, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (1.0) South American tapir named Erro to Dartmoor Zoo in Devon on April 4th.
