Chester Zoo New Animals At The Zoo

Forgot to add these to the list.

Kirk's dik-dik
Anderson's salamander
corn snake
Boelen's python
Black and white lauhing thrush
fairy bluebird
hammerkop
rufous-bellied niltavia
South African crested porcupine

Haven't heard anything about hyenas, I doubt it.

I'm quite content with the lion enclosure as it is - lions are not the most energetic creatures, so I feel it is fine for a pair or trio (plus cubs) and they aren't likely to keep more Asian lions than that.
I would like to see one or two species of animals housed better, notably the vicuna and the babirusa (I'd like to be able to see them). If I had to name one new species, I'd really like to see sea otters: but there are probably wiser choices.

i agree about the barbirusa ive been several times and still not saw them. I am hoping that once the first phase is done they but most of the african animals in the same enclosure like the zebra, giraffe, and maybe even the african rhino

when i first went, i was looking fdor maned wolves (didn't realise the butturfly hosue was under construction and the maned wolves had left) but it was worth it as i came across the babirusa

Would love to see mixed habitat exhibits, African Water Hole[Lechwe, Cranes, Abdims Stork,Flamingoes and Sacred Ibis] Pampas[Vicuna, Rhea, Mara]also Red Squirrels, Capercailles and other threatened native wildlife too.

Common hippos are supposed to be going in the savannah zone, at least they were last year.

might sound crazy but the giant panda would be good to see here. The zoo is probably one of the best candidates in the uk for a future placement. They have the forsight, space & good location. Does anyone know if there is a chance of the pandas making a return to the uk.?

i heard a while back that Edinburgh were hoping to get a pair sometime this year or next

They are, and I think they were considered by Chester but they decided not to get them after.

a visit to edinburgh is in order I think.. Shame chester could have had the chance but ruled it out. Probably for good reasons..anybody know why.. Is that why the polar bear at edinburgh is planning to be moved to HWP?

I think chester thought it was not feasable to bring Giant panda's in, however there will be a live link up at some time in the future to the breeding centre Chester supports.
