Here's news regarding finishing gorillas and their fervence on returning to elephants. They're implicit elephants the very next construction phase after the apes on a section of the article.

Since the ARA'S would be over the moon about the zoo being without elephants, i'm sure they would be livid about the park constructing a new modern facility and bringing the animals back. Let's hope these groups don't get bent out of shape with the zoo for the next Asian phase

That means the Next Project is the Asian Section with the Return of Elephants.
I believe that also will incorporate moving the tigers clouded leopards asian small clawed otters, gibbons, and possibly the babirusa and fishing cat, over to that part of the zoo on that other side of the freeway to complement the Asian theme and maybe add an asian aviary. A staff member told me orangutans and red pandas might be part of the plan during my last visit last fall, but we'll have to wait and see re. that :)

That's a lot to fit on 10 acres...

Since they will should make elephants the main priority in that area along with tigers and gibbons (and otters) in thay area, I imagine they will phase out the babirusas and fishing cat in the process. I'm not sure they will be able to fit an amazing orangutan complex too. I really hope red pandas are out of the question as the climate of SA is obviously not suitable for them.

...wouldn't they just keep the fishing cat and babirusa where they currently are? There isn't really much of a reason to try and cram everything Asian into this new precinct, if the focus ultimately is on giving elephants a massive space. Ultimately it's the zoo's call.
