Paradise Park Paradise Park News

The park is struggling with various financial problems, including a 20% drop in visitor numbers since Covid, plus an increase in National Insurance contributions is set to add £25,000 to annual costs. The park has approximately 1330 birds and employs 50 staff. The owners are having to use their own savings to stay afloat. The threat of bird flu has also added to the parks problems. Unfortunately a European Eagle Owl escaped last Wednesday during training for a flying show. The bird is fitted with a tracker, but the signal has stopped.

First visit in a year, love this place! Was pretty busy which is good for them, not too many kids which was good for me! It looks great in the sunshine!
Highlights for me where spotting 3 Collared Falconets and a Hooded Parrot in their little tropical house, very vocal and entertaining Palm Cockatoos, a veritable flock of Leadbeaters Cockatoos, lots of red vented cockatoos and Choughs, quite interesting just observing and listening to the choughs, saw the flamingo chick, only about 10 adults so a good parental pair!!
Worth a visit if anyone is ever this far down in Cornwall!!

Plus a nice flock of Swift Parrots, which are quite tiny and a great selection of lories, lorikeets, turacos and Macaws and cockatoos!! Not forgetting the Pesquets Parrots!!
Really the only thing they are missing is Spix (the Macaw that is.)

Yes indeed. I'm sorry that I misunderstood - I thought you meant they were missing from the list that @aquilla1 posted.
Circa 1973 I once asked Mike Reynolds, the founder of PP, about Spix macaw, an almost mythical bird I was very interested in . I remember him saying I'd probably never see one, he was not far off as it took another 50 years or so before I did. They have a great collection at PP even without them.
