Most of Columbus' animals have been donor-named for years now. Even their keeper-named animals typically are only allowed to be named by keepers because a donor chose that. Doubtlessly the next calf will be named after someone's grandmother just like the last three have been
I agree, I don't mind the choice, but it is interesting to say the least. I guess her name will be shortened to just 'Rita' sooner rather than later.Kinda was hoping that they'd stick to Sanskrit names, considering her mother's name, Sundara, however, I think Rita is a good name, it's just the Jean that throws me off
Currently Aree (Myrtle), Mable, April, Piper, and perhaps Angelica and Shirley but considering the birth intervals of their last known calves (2012, and 2013 respectfully) to now I doubt it.
Isn't Shirley deceased? According to Elephant Database she passed in 2022 but it might be wrong.
Iirc she was included in 2023 leaked ssp doccument and I believe was accounted for in another document from late last year, however I am not 100% sure on her inclusion from last year's doccument.

Both bulls were set to replace the current breeding bulls at both facilities (Oregon for Billy and Syracuse for Bohdi). Due to Bohdi's genetic value, I can definitely see him moving into a breeding situation soon, whether that's at Syracuse or elsewhere.
No both facilities (Oregon and Syracuse) will retain both current bulls according to the recs but the new bull will be utilised as the breeding bull, meaning they'll have multiple bulls on site.
Okay, I got Samudra and Samson confused.
Both are, as of 2023, set to lose their reccomendations with the respective reproductive female on-site once the new bulls arrive as well. As such, they will be likely be retained as bachelors up until if/when they receive a reccomendation to go elswhere.
Hence Chuck being acquired last year.
