Miniature Animal Figure Collection

The Toymany Madagascar set arrived today, and overall pretty pleased. Some sizing differences are slightly annoying, with the Parson's Chameleon being fairly large comparatively and the mouse lemur is larger than the bamboo lemur, but the sculpts are pretty good and so are the paint jobs.

I pulled out my elephant collection of Schleich, et al elephant miniatures. Does anyone know of a way to categorize or find what I can add of retired models?

With a box received a few days ago my collection jumped well over the 400 mark, and brought the brand total to 18! Whenever it happens to hit the 500 mark it'll really be time to figure out the storage situation.

Less than five months since I said that, oh dear! I blame Colorata and Toymany for making sets rather than individual figures. :p
As might be guessed, I'm over the 500 mark as of today - particularly from two Colorata sets and the Toymany Madagascar set. Though a surprise gift of 13 Schleich figures from family today is what boosted the collection over the mark. :)

And in case anyone is wondering from the quote, yes storage is becoming an issue haha. The bookshelf stack keeps growing, and yes both clear plastic boxes at the bottom are also figures... I'm considering better options!

I like those toucans!

I saw them lined up in the first picture and was going to ask what they were made of, because they looked like big wooden ornaments. I think the scale of the first picture might not be what I initially thought!

That’s a really crazy case of pyramiding right there :D

I quite like them as well, I'd initially debated but very glad I opted to get them! They are indeed plastic, though looking again they do appear rather wooden in that first picture. Each one is actually six pieces that you assemble, but the joint lines are pretty well considered and don't impact the look too much. They're fairly large models in comparison to most bird figures, this picture might give a better sense of scale to that storage picture!

Recently picked up the new CollectA Anomalocaris canadensis - apparently it isn't the most up-to-date reconstruction, but I still quite like the sculpt. I like the detail of the painted-in pseudopupil.

I haven’t been collecting too many figures as of late, but not only do I now have a total of 245 figures in my collection. I was also able to acquire the following not too long ago.

I quite like those wildebeests, Kitan Club does great figures!

Looks like Toymany’s back at it again, as they recently revealed a 15-figure primate set with the following species represented:
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Mandrill
  • Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey
  • Sumatran Orangutan
  • Lion-Tailed Macaque
  • Common Patas Monkey
  • Mantled Howler
  • Chimpanzee
  • Common Squirrel Monkey
  • Lar Gibbon
  • Proboscis Monkey
  • Western Lowland Gorilla
  • Rhesus Macaque (I assume?)
  • Olive Baboon

Currently, this and the aforementioned Madagascar set are available online for purchase, making these high-quality products all the more accessible!

Just went over and ordered the species I didn't already have, some nice options in the set! I quite like that they're mixing in lesser known species and not just doing common ones. Looking forward to what's next! They're not quite top quality figures but they're pretty good and certainly recommendable.

ToyMany primates are here - have to admit I'm not entirely impressed with several of the sculpts. The squirrel monkey cannot stand alone, as I was concerned might be the case for how it is pictured on the website. The tail on the Patas is fused to the leg, which is a tad disappointing; it's also larger than the macaques and baboons. While a unique and somewhat characteristic pose for the Olive Baboon, the face is virtually invisible unless the figure is on its back. This unfortunately gives it a rather nondescript appearance which combined with a somewhat small size made it rather disappointing. I was surprised to see that all of them except the squirrel monkey are sculpted as anatomically correct males, something normally excluded on primate sculpts for obvious reasons.
Overall from the ones I purchased I'd give the set a B, maybe B-, they're decent but definitely not hitting top quality. Felt a bit of a step down both sculpt-wise and paint job-wise after the quite good Madagascar set.

They also came with this set of little information cards unlike the Madagascar set, assumably this is new?

Chequered Rainbowfish - Melanotaenia splendida inornata
I had originally intended for this to be an Eastern Rainbowfish M. splendida splendida, but I realised the image I was using as reference was the inornata subspecies when I was already almost finished painting it. I decided to just keep going and call it inornata :p
