Is it safe to assume that Black-necked Storks Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus currently in Australian zoos are ssp. australis? If I recall correctly, Perth Zoo had ssp. asiaticus at one point decades ago, but did this bird ever breed?
No, Perth never bred the species. I'm unsure about Melbourne's pair as they weren't mentioned under the main facilities that held the Australian sub species from a 2023 husbandry report. Is it safe to assume that Black-necked Storks Ephippiorhynchus asiaticus currently in Australian zoos are ssp. australis?
