Berlin Tierpark Tierpark Berlin News 2025

I also saw what I believe the Bear Cuscus offspring in an offshow indoor enclosure next to the tree kangaroo. There is also a female Lesser Kudu in with the male from Dvur. The work on the elephant was progressing quite well with a lot already finished. The first pillars have also been placed for the flamingo and pelican aviaries.

Lots of exciting news, thank you for the updates. Did you see anything of note happening where the rhino complex is planned to be?

Nothing yet, all of the species were still present. (African Buffalo, Somali Wild Ass) Did notice a decent amount of signage in the monkey house about their projects for Rhinos in the wild and a rhino statue outside, but that might have already been there.

Yup, all of this rhino theming has been there for some time. So we still have to wait, if something will come from it in the end.
And there actually are 3,1 African Wild Dogs by now.

Other than that, they gave their (5,2) Red and White Giant Flying Squirrels to another zoo.
Likewise with their (1,7) Gayals.
Two rarely kept species gone now. But I guess the flying squirrels weren't much of an attraction anyways. I spotted a head about two or three times in almost a year and after that usually didn't even bother trying.

Any word on which zoo the squirrels went too? I’ve seen some upset about the departure of the gayal. Is there any idea of what will replace them? Perhaps movement of the Cape buffalo once the rhino work begins?

Conservation centre in Grasleben, if ZTL is to be believed. Regarding the gayal, I can't remember if that paddock is meant to be included in the rhino facility footprint but if not it would definitely make a good home for the buffalo.

I think it was mentioned before that the paddocks affected by the new rhino complex would include those for Mishmi takin, Somali wild ass, Cape buffalo and another species in which I can’t remember!

With Gayal leaving and banteng soon to replace the water buffalo there seems there will be a good few upcoming changes!

Sad news: 0,1 aye aye "Vassago" (27) has passed away. Only this last Sunday, I had been searching for her. Soon some other animals from Madagascar will move in the exhibit. But in the meantime they are negotioating, whether they can get another aye aye in the future.
