Bronx Zoo How To Make The Most Out Of A Trip To The Bronx Zoo?

Probably not. I'm a very nervous driver, so I would probably be using some public transportation in my case.
There are NO hotels nor motels within walking distance of the zoo.
Were there I would not stay in one in any event.
The zoo is in a hellacious place for tourists -even though it is - on its northern border within walking distance of Fordham University .
Without a car you must take public transportation .
Depending on you budget - and how many days you intend to stay (Is the Bronx Zoo - maybe including the Botanical Gardens -adjacent- the sole purpose for visiting ?
If so then the Metro North stops at Fordham and can take you to Westchester where you can find more affordable motels in White Plains or New Rochelle - though you will have to pay for the Metro North and MTA bus fares between the station and the zoo.

The Bronx Zoo would be my primary focus although I'm hoping to see the American Museum of Natural History and Central Park Zoo, maybe other WSCs if I can make a longer stay work. The latter information is particularly helpful, thank you!

if that is the case then you are better off finding a motel or hotel in King Island City, Queens - one stop away from Manhattan by subway.
That would be one fare ( subway) from there to Central Park zoo or AMNH
An express bus runs from Madison Avenue directly to the Bronx Zoo and back.
